I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is help them work towards their goals. I like to build up their confidence towards their weakness and most importantly educate them on their learning style which is so important long term. Not only can they identify their learning style but they will adapt to a new revision method that’s most…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster curiosity and build a student's confidence. Encouraging students to study a subject for a deeper purpose, rather than simply aiming for high grades, helps them develop genuine interest and motivation to learn. When students become curious, they are more likely to explore ideas…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident with any subject or topic they are struggling with. To provide continuous guidance and support to them. To ensure that no student is left behind in any way. To motivate them to give their 100% in every subject. One of my biggest strengths as a tutor is to simplify…

A tutor should always understand the level of understanding of a particular subject by a student, so that he/she can start teaching from the basics if necessary. I am people-friendly. I know English, Tamil, Chinese, and German, so I can speak in a way students can understand the topics clearly. Also, I am strong in my fundamentals, so I can teach…

Mental support Always be active to answer questions (even in off work periods of the day) Make a good plan of what the session will be all about before it starts. Openmind at work ... Try different methods and examples to communicate the concepts. Let the student work the problems on their own and then try to guide them to the answers without…

Communication, patience, understanding. Clearly explaining the topic with either simple or appropriate terms depending on the student's level. As someone who studied on three different continents (Europe, North America, and Australia) I can recognize different types of learners and I utilize it to reach the full potential of the students. The most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build a foundation of confidence and independent thinking. Rather than simply providing the correct answers, a tutor should guide a student through the logic of a problem so they can eventually solve it on their own. It is also vital to build a strong rapport where the student feels…

Listen first, teach second. Understand where a student is stuck and why. Build their confidence through small wins. Make the subject relevant to their world. A great tutor doesn't just explain; they make the student believe they can. I simplify the complex. Years of engineering and research taught me to break hard ideas into clear steps. I meet…

Give the student the foundational skills to excel on the own once outside of tutoring. A good tutor will be able to get their student to a level where they feel competent to work by themselves, and know both how to solve a problem, and why we approach the problem the way we do. My strengths as a tutor is my relatability, as math didn’t come easy…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence in being able to attempt completely unfamiliar problems. A tutor should be a good listener in order to understand the problem that a student is facing. Identify the student's strengths , their interests and translate into learning. Local Reviews

Ezy and professional all the way! The response time was quick (after we had had poor results in our prior attempts to organize a tutor for our son) We had our first tutoring session 2 days after making contact, and the result has already started to show only a couple of weeks in. They also follow up with interesting support material to compliment the sessions and make sure you as parent have realistic understanding on how the process works.
Ellen, Erskineville

Inside ErskinevilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Sam focused on algebra basics and graphing, then moved into trigonometry topics like similar triangles and the law of cosines, using diagrams to clarify each step.

For Year 10 student Jamie, lessons addressed linear equations and systems of linear equations, along with strategies for solving quadratic equations and interpreting graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Alex worked through algorithms for subtraction and multiplication after a pre-assessment identified current strengths and set clear math goals.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student found multi-step word problems overwhelming, struggling to identify key information and break tasks into manageable parts; "she stated that she is often overwhelmed at all the information given to her."

In Year 11, missing out on reviewing ratios and rates before a test led to easy marks being lost, as noted when the student relied on their own judgment rather than systematically covering all topics.

For a Year 12 student, skipping questions on a practice exam meant they missed opportunities to apply feedback or clarify uncertainties. This sometimes left gaps unaddressed before assessment deadlines arrived.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Erskineville noticed Kiera is now independently tackling tricky algebra problems—she used to wait for help, but recently solved most on her own and even explained her thinking out loud.

Raphael, a high school student, showed real initiative by trying different problem-solving strategies his teacher suggested; he completed complex algorithms without prompting and was eager to dive into programming Flappy Bird after a demo.

Another win came when Kiera finished the entire trigonometry set perfectly this week—without needing any assistance from her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Erskineville Public School.
