A good tutor is able to help a student consolidate their knowledge and improve their skills in areas they are lacking so that they are able to perform to the best of their ability. My strengths are a strong understanding of the material I teach, a friendly approach, good communication skills and a strong belief that I can help my students achieve…

One of the most important skills for a tutor is to be able to word and explain concepts in a multitude of ways, rather than having one single explanation. Being able to explain a concept or theory from its most basic components and then slowly build up the information for the student is one of the most important skills to have and thing to do for…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do is actually get to know the student as well as their learning style in order to be able to make a real impact on the student's learning. Another key thing that a tutor can do identify the areas that the student needs extra help in in order to focus on these which could involve asking a few…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help faciliate and devolop an independant learning process. By this I mean helping the student to learn, by not just giving them the answer but by helping them to reach the answer on their own. This way they will be able to do similar probelms in future, without assistance, and…

Help him to go further and improve himself by providing better advice than a classroom teacher. As a tutor, I would be able to focus on my student to understand his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone. With this knowledge the tutor could provide advices focused on how to correct the student and allow him to have better scores easily. I'm…

A tutor has to enable the student. Teaching them specific knowledge only goes so far. A tutor needs to give a student confidence that they can overcome their academic obstacles. Teach a student how to obtain resources in order to learn in their own time too. A tutor should be someone that the student can lean back on, if they have trouble finding…

Encourage them. It is important to make a student feel like they are doing well. Everyone needs encouragement, especially someone who is already struggling. Every student is special and expecting same response from every student is really not good . Firstly, tutors can guide the students in their learning and boost their knowledge in areas that they are not confident in or have fallen behind from school. Tutors enhance the student's academic ability so they can perform at their best. Secondly, tutors have the power to motivate and encourage students to keep working hard and not to give up,…

To really understand where the student is coming from. I believe a tutor should complement, not replace, teachers and school. Instead, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to take advantage of the time they spend with students individually to identify the core roadblock that prevents their understanding, and then clear it, in a way that teachers, with a class of thirty students,…

Be patient, be attentive to their learning styles, involve them in the process of learning, focus on their strengths and not just the areas that they’re struggling with and make sure I fully understand the tasks that they are required to do so I can best support them to complete these. Local Reviews

It was incredibly easy to get started with EzyMath Tutoring. A couple of clicks, a phone call and we were in business! My son's tutor is great - he is showing my son lots of alternative strategies and is highlighting areas for practice before their next session. I know measurable results will take time but we are happy with the progress thus far. And, more importantly, my son is feeling more confident and engaged in math class.

Inside Essendon NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden worked through converting fractions to decimals and solving percentage problems, focusing on clear step-by-step calculations.

In Year 11, Ethan tackled linear motion and gravitational motion in Physics, including rearranging formulae to solve for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara concentrated on Special Relativity concepts in Physics and practiced applying electromagnetic induction principles to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics and Maths, one student repeatedly relied on formula sheets for even basic questions and struggled to connect formulas with real-world meanings. "He still just sees a formula as the thing you use to plug values in," a tutor noted after an interest rate problem, leading to confusion when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, missing or jumbled working steps caused errors—skipping writing out calculations led to lost numbers during matrix problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to sprawl working across the page resulted in confusion mid-way through multi-step perimeter tasks; details were missed or units mixed up.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon North tutoring session saw a high school student, Alex, who previously struggled to identify which formulas to use in finance and matrix problems, now tackling complex questions independently and rarely making calculation errors.

Another win came when Matthew, also in high school, showed real initiative by completing extra work on amortisation tables—something he'd found confusing before—and could explain the difference between nominal and effective interest rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ella in Year 6 moved from hesitating over worded inequality problems to confidently solving them after working through a hands-on example with pencils and pens.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon North Primary School.
