I think versatility and variety are the most important characteristics since different learning methods work for different people. Being able to acknowledge different teaching styles and having the ability to use them according to the specific person being taught is what I believe to be of greatest importance. A tutor should also be…

- In addition to academic support, it is important to recognise that students often encounter personal challenges that can impact their studies. I firmly believe that extracurricular interests and hobbies should enhance their lives rather than feel burdensome. Therefore, I think it is important to work collaboratively with students to help them…

The best thing a tutor can do is lay a foundation so strong that the student understands it very well and never giving up on them. It is to understand that every student is special. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give them the confidence to approach difficulty. I believe this is more important than just teaching the students academic skills because by giving them confidence the student will be more proactive toward their learning. I'm a patient tutor who doesn't get annoyed or…

Tutors are useful in the way that if a student didn’t understand how something was explained in class, we can offer different and more in depth explanations to help them achieve this understanding. Ensuring a student feels comfortable enough to ask questions is the most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion. That I am supportive, positive…

Be honest: This helps to establish rapport and trust, the two most critical elements of a successful tutoring relationship. Be flexible: This means being willing to adjust techniques and approaches to meet the learning styles of the student. Be patient: What is obvious or easy for you may not be so for your student. Learn not to show annoyance in…

Help them gain confidence in themselves and uplifting them in the process. To do this I think its important to ensure the student is still self sufficient (not just given the answers). A tutor influences a student in many ways. He or she contributes a lot to the personality of a student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to build confidence. And I believe confidence is something that is essential throughout a persons life. It's the confidence that makes one believe that they could do things…

I believe that the one of the most important things a tutor can do is to help a student truly realise their academic potential, especially since the needs of one student may be overlooked in a classroom setting. It is also important, however, to help inspire confidence in the subject, and hopefully a passion, so that they continue to succeed…

Through my time at university, I have found the ability to be patient is what separates my current tutors apart. A tutor is similar to a learning support assistant in schools, they are there to assist the teacher and they do lots of jobs to help students achieve learning goals. Inside FaddenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Daniel focused on solving linear equations and practiced substitution methods for simultaneous equations, using worked examples to reinforce understanding.

In Year 10, Chloe revised quadratic graphs and equations, learning to identify features of parabolas from their algebraic forms.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Jamie worked through area calculations for composite shapes and circles, with step-by-step guidance on decomposing complex figures into simpler parts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hadn't done any independent revision for her upcoming exam—her tutor noted, "we need to work on building independent study as a habit," especially for earlier topics.

In Year 10 maths, one student struggled to identify and prepare the specific "Pattern Tests" he found challenging, often coming into sessions without clear focus or examples.

At the primary level, a Year 4 learner repeatedly got distracted during lessons and needed stricter redirection just to complete homework ("got really distracted, needed to be a bit stricter to get him back on track"). This led to missed practice opportunities and unfinished tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Fadden tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to quietly muddle through tricky maths problems; now, she openly asks when confused and confidently tells the tutor which parts need more explanation.

In a recent high school session, another student who'd struggled to keep track of algebra steps started writing out each process on cards—and by the end was solving equations independently using notes.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, one student who always counted on fingers managed all his addition under a timer without needing that crutch and fixed his usual mistake with number 11.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Erindale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Fadden Primary School.
