I will consistently encourage all my students to always try, and practise, and try again, until they master whatever they were first struggling with. Their dreams become my dreams for them, so I will never let my students give up on reaching their goals. Improvements do not happen overnight, but whenever they do happen, no matter how small, I…

The most important thing is to help students develop a problem-solving thinking mode, rather than simply explaining a certain problem. After the problem-solving thinking mode is formed, they can not only efficiently solve the problems in learning but also actively deal with the problems in life. I am a very patient person. I can answer students'…

I think spending time to change your whole approach of teaching because one of your student is unable to understand the whole content. Being honest and flexible is very important things a tutor can have. Flexible, patient, good listener and helping nature. Being flexible about the teaching approach because every individual has different way of…

Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Mastery learning is a way of designing units of work so that each set of tasks focuses on a particular learning objective and students must master a task to move onto the next one. The tutor should also help the…

I think the most important thing is to encourage students. When students facing difficulties, they need encouragement; when they successfully solved a question, they need encouragement. The core of encouragement is to give our students confidence. Be able to explain the problem patiently, break down the incomprehensible problem, draw inferences…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student extend beyond academic instruction. While helping students grasp challenging concepts is crucial, equally vital is fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment. I think the most important thing is to give them an interest in the subjects. In my study path, I realized that the easiest way to study well in a subject is loving them. Therefore, instead of providing them with a full of academic lessons, teachers should help them feel entertained in the lessons. Then, they will find out and get better by…

First and foremost, for the student to improve his/her results in school. And beyond that, to get them to enjoy what they're doing (at least somewhat) - and push them into thinking creatively and originally. Apart from imparting knowledge, a good tutor should be able to make the student fall in love with the subject. This will guide the student to understand the topic better and most importantly relate it to practical scenarios. Further, a tutor plays a decisive role in unraveling the hidden potential of a student. Not everyone is meant to be a math…

Inside FelixstowTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Em worked through the more challenging parts of a maths folio task, including strategies for formatting equations in Word, and began exploring REDOX reactions in Chemistry.

For Year 9, Isabel focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions and simplifying algebraic fractions.

In Year 10, Ana prepared for her exam by covering key theory from the functions and relations topic, an area she found particularly unfamiliar.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often arrived at sessions without recent test papers or clear notes, making it hard to pinpoint gaps before exams—one tutor observed, "she hadn't brought her maths test home, so next time."

In Year 11, motivation to revise independently was low, with folio drafts left incomplete and little energy for organizing formal write-ups.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 learner's written work in Pythagoras' Theorem was described as needing clearer layout; corrections were required just to follow the logic.

In each case, confusion and disorganization led to frustration or missed opportunities for timely feedback.

Recent Achievements

A Felixstow tutoring session saw a Year 11 student become much more proactive—she now arrives with her own list of questions, and recently worked through every item in just one hour.

In another win, a high schooler who used to hesitate when facing algebraic proofs was able to tackle most steps independently, only checking in for minor guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student initially found trigonometric functions confusing but became noticeably more engaged after experimenting with different angle values during the lesson; she even asked for extra practice examples before finishing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Payneham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Felixstow Primary School.
