What I consider to be the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build and reinforce their confidence in their abilities and potential for growth. By fostering a light-hearted atmosphere of fun, curiosity, and creativity, a tutor can engage students and inspire them to apply themselves not just for the joy of learning, but also…

Allowing the student to "teach back". Ff a student is able to teach the basics to someone else as well as spot where errors have been made, they have understood the method and are able to reassess their own work. Being patient, all tutors have once felt academic pressure and felt like certain concepts were too difficult, however it is important…

According to me, the most difficult part of life is being a student. Because there is a strict rule that students must pass all the subjects even when they are already mastered their favorite subject of study. But they lose their confidence and focus in their mastered subjects and they get lower grades. But the most important thing is that there…

A tutor should be fair and promote independent thinking rather than just giving answers. Encouraging students to analyze problems, develop strategies, and build logical reasoning skills is essential. Another key role is boosting confidence—many students struggle not due to a lack of ability, but self-doubt. By providing structured learning,…

Build their confidence, often kids find themselves behind in subjects and it slowly eats away at their confidence and desire to try and learn. My job is to not only give them different tools and options to learn what they are struggling with but also build their confidence and show them that they are not stupid for struggling. I have developed a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to support and encourage them or they will be scared to ask questions and "try hard". Raising a student's confidence and self esteem is important and allows them to gain enthusiasm for the subject. Then we will see improvements in understanding and results gradually. The tutor's job is to be…

A tutor would need to be able to identify where a student may be struggling and have a clear idea on what exercises should be done in order to help that student develop a much clearer understanding of the specific topic. The most significant thing of teacher can motivate students to earn knowledge. As well as they can guide their student by understanding their own way of learning. So, I think every student's learning technique is different. At first, I need to understand the enjoyable way of my student learning procedure. For example, some students enjoy learning…

The best thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to their needs, because it is evident in a classroom when a teacher doesn't know how to teach by the way they address the problem. Different people need the same issue explained in various ways, and so it is extremely important to have a great depth of understanding in order to communicate with…

Local Reviews

Quality and experienced maths tutoring from Jes. This whole experience has been so personalised and streamlined and has given me such peace of mind. The first hour free was such a bonus. The phone call follow up from start to finish was great. I would not hesitate to recommend this tutoring service to anyone. My daughter was doubtful at first but there was an immediate change in her maths outlook for a great start to high school.

Inside FigtreeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Isla worked on simplifying fractions and understanding order of operations, also converting numbers to percentages.

For Year 9, Tom tackled algebraic expressions as well as survey-based questions from his worksheets.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Natalia focused on key concepts in algebra and completed final exercises with feedback to consolidate her skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student revising transformations in Maths skipped horizontal reflection and scaling, leading to confusion when new examples appeared—"he'll need to revisit these areas for clarity," the tutor noted.

In Year 2, one learner's sums suffered when she rushed through calculations, sometimes forgetting whether to add or subtract; homework showed improvement, but quiz settings brought back the habit.

Meanwhile, a tired Year 3 child lost focus during backwards counting, stalling progress with place value changes.

Across senior grades (Years 10–12), several students reviewed solutions only superficially before exams, leaving them unable to independently reconstruct steps under timed conditions.

Recent Achievements

A Figtree tutor recently noticed Annabelle, a Year 11 student, quickly grasped horizontal and vertical transpositions of x² graphs—something she'd hesitated with in earlier sessions.

Tyson (Year 9) made a shift from waiting for answers to recalling information himself when prompted, then applying it directly to questions without second-guessing.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student surprised her tutor by completing all her homework with zero mistakes after previously struggling to remember carrying tens during addition; she even tackled simple subtraction independently.

In the same week, Natalia worked through algebra problems on her own for the first time after initial uncertainty.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Eagle Vale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Figtree Heights Public School.
