the most important thing a tutor can do is create a supportive environment where each student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. When students feel judged, they’re less likely to engage, so for me, building that trust is essential. Another key responsibility is building the student’s confidence. i help students believe in…

I believe that a tutor has truly succeeded their responsibilities when their student anticipates their lessons and excell due to the…

Tutors should not immediately give students what they want. Providing answers is the easy path for both tutors and students, but then the solutions will always be mine, not the student's. As a tutor, I feel the ultimate goal is to benefit the student to become an independent and confident learner. To conclude, having confidence…

It should be the ability to make the students feel comfortable during your sessions. The students should be able to relate with me and feel free to clear any doubts they may have. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
