Tutors play a key role in helping students believe in their abilities and equipping them with the skills to learn proactively. To achieve this, we must create a safe and non-judgemental space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. Alongside this, tutors should always provide clear explanations and guidance to make…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be present for them and creating a space where they are able to learn at their own pace and style. My strengths as a tutor is my ability to make learning fun and enjoyable whilst still being educational. I also excel and creating a safe environment to learn, where mistakes are welcomed…

A tutor that can go down to the student's level and cater to their needs in a unique way is very important. I believe each student has a different way of absorbing content better and being a tutor is all about going through the process of discovering what method best suites each student. I also believe a tutor should prioritize the student and…

Patience and stand in their point of view. Because kids have their own opinions and there is not wrong in their points even if the points in the adult's view is not accessible. All we can do that is be patience to listen and consider their opinion and give advice. Communication. I 'd like to share the information to the kids and like to talk to…

Be patient. Tutors must always be patient with students as both stand on different levels in education and understanding. What may have come easily to the tutor may not come so easily for the student. Furthermore, what seems extremely easy to the tutor may be very hard for their student. Therefore, it is imperative that the tutor is patient in…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are listen and build trust. When a student feels heard and supported, they're much more willing to engage and take on challenges. Beyond that, a good tutor identifies why a student is struggling not just what they're struggling with and meets them at their level. Ultimately, the goal isn't just to…

Well, one is to build the student's confidence! I want them to be able to think independently and instil in their minds to avoid the use of AI tools like ChatGPT. I want to create a comfortable space where they can make mistakes and learn from them! A good tutor does not just give the answers, and I'd guide them to find the answers themselves. 1:1…

A tutor is basically a role model for the student. If a tutor can quickly solve anonymous problem then student can definitely be motivated and solve there sums. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
