As I said above, sharing knowledge is always the first priority. Because our job, as tutors, is to help the students with problems related to knowledge, wisdom. Second, encouraging them to show their best efforts in the school work is also necessary. To me, letting them discover new knowledge and be independent on what they need to do is…

Everything can be transformed if we can transform the brain and recreate those neural connections which will bring back creative intuition in your life. I try to curate experiential transformation learning in my teachings to bring back creative…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be absolutely encouraging in whatever the student wants to achieve in anything they are learning. It's important because that strongly affects the students drive and perseverance in mastering a certain subject. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel totally at ease with the subject. When they’re comfortable, they’re more open to asking questions and enjoying the learning process. It’s also about building their confidence, showing them they’re capable of understanding even the tricky stuff. And honestly, just…

Education is one of the most important assets one can possess. I believe that I serve an onus to the youth to teach and share ideas with them. As students are young, it is important to start them on the right footing early. - I am organised and able to deliver theory in a concise way. - I can accurately and precisely teach students while making…

The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. I have experienced that every student learn differently, some are visual, some hands-on discussion based and some with stories. A great tutor identifies how each student learns fast and adjust their approach accordingly. I have emotional intelligence to learn…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, support their individual learning needs, and encourage independent thinking. It’s not just about giving answers it’s about helping students develop the skills to solve problems on their own. A good tutor creates a safe, supportive environment where…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen to them. If you do not have two way communication a lot of details can be lost in translation or misunderstood . I am patient and I adapt to my students learning style in order to have effective communication. I plan material ahead of the lesson to ensure that the time I have…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is giving enough time for the student who requires that time for understanding. The most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and understood, not embarrassed for struggling. A good tutor should be able to explain things clearly, adapt to the student’s pace, and notice where they are actually getting stuck instead of just repeating the same explanation. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel comfortable and inculcate a 'can do' attitude. This puts me in roughly the same generation as the students. I…

Inside FootscrayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia focused on solving problems involving the volume of cylinders and explored area and circumference of circles, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

In Year 8, Liam practiced linear relationships by plotting equations on coordinate grids and worked through questions on finding equations of lines.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ava reviewed angle types—such as complementary and supplementary angles—and estimated degrees using protractors for hands-on learning.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 trigonometry, a student hesitated to attempt challenging problems, focusing mainly on familiar examples—this limited exposure to multi-step scenarios.

For a Year 3 multiplication task, over-reliance on counting rather than recalling tables slowed progress and led to errors ("Need to learn by heart the multiplication table").

In Year 10 data evaluation, incomplete practice with interpreting graphs meant patterns were sometimes missed.

During Year 8 decimal work, one tutor noted: "Need to be more careful while counting the number to put the decimal point and index number." These process gaps often left some questions unanswered or concepts only partly grasped in-session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Footscray noticed a big shift with one high school student who, after struggling to estimate angles without tools, now confidently judges them by eye and checks his work independently.

Another Year 9 student who used to hesitate when stuck on problems has started raising questions mid-session and fixing mistakes right away, instead of waiting for hints.

Meanwhile, a younger student finally cleared up confusion about range and median—after weeks of guessing, he now explains the difference out loud before solving each problem.

Last week, one finished all his homework in just 20 minutes and asked for extra exercises.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Barkly Campus.
