I think the most important things a tutor can do for the student is to make the learning experience for the student enjoyable so that the student actually wants to come learn. Instead of their parents forcing them to sit there and learn because this was how I felt when I was growing up. I was forced to go to a tutor and didn't enjoy it at all and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student in my opinion is being patient and kind whilst teaching in a way that best suits the learner. Having an in-depth knowledge surrounding the topic that is being taught is also extremely important so that students can feel confident that any question they may ask can be answered correctly. I am…

To be there and offer the maximum amount of help you can to the students who needs the extra hand. It is also important as a tutor to be patient and communicate with the students to know how to assist these students. One of my strengths as a tutor would be my age, since I'm a similar age as some of these students who needs the tutoring I am able…

Being encouraging, speaking clearly, giving comments, and keeping up students' motivation are what tutors should focus on most. The goal is to understand each student's needs and modify the approach as necessary. Students' personal and academic development is promoted by a supportive and upbeat learning environment, as well as by setting…

Be empathetic and help them through a method they are most comfortable with, even if it can be time consuming. As I have recently graduated highschool, the information is still fresh in my mind. To me, one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be open and encouraging. Everyone (not only kids) gets embarrassed and scared to ask questions when they don't know what to do -- its our job to make sure they feel safe enough to ask so that they can fully grasp everything in their minds. If one of my students kept…

The most important things I can do for a student is teaching them how to learn and study more efficiently as those are more important than helping them to solve specific questions. As a tutor is paid to improve a student's grades and so that's the underlying aim. But what a tutor should really do is teach a student how to learn better and improve. That means reminding them to proofread, read the criteria sheet before and after researching, and set up study plans that work with them (if that's palm cards, end of the week…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not spoon feed information, its the art of teaching the child to a degree where it helps them but doesnt answer the entire thing. I think providing valuable insights and preparation is one thing, but having a set out progression plan for them is the best way to ensure success for the student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is bring confidence in a students life by being able to teach them harder concepts and increase their knowledge. Inside ForestdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hunter focused on building multiplication and division skills as a foundation for early algebra concepts, using practical examples.

For Year 10, Jasmine worked through the use of surds in equations and applied Pythagoras' Theorem in three dimensions, including work with the unit circle.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Emily tackled derivative techniques for exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and practiced forming equations from real-world word problems to deepen understanding of calculus applications.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student repeatedly found it difficult to format fraction addition and subtraction, leading to misplaced numbers and small errors—he still has a little confusion on how to layout his addition and subtraction of fractions.

In Year 11 Physics, another student relied heavily on notes for formula recall rather than memorizing them, slowing down progress during assignments.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 Maths student often rounded excessively or defaulted to technology instead of expressing answers exactly; this habit affected accuracy when constructing functions.

In each case, these process habits resulted in lost marks or slower improvement than expected.

Recent Achievements

One Forestdale tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who, after weeks of relying heavily on hints for calculus questions, started tackling function manipulation and differentiation independently—she even asked for tougher problems mid-session.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who previously hesitated to participate during lessons began openly checking her answers aloud when working through tricky linear regression tasks, rather than waiting passively for feedback.

At the primary level, Hunter moved from confusion about decimal place value to confidently converting between fractions and decimals without prompting; last session he chose which method to use entirely on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan West Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia Heights State School.
