The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand their ability and to guide them to achieve greater things within the schooling life. As a tutor, I believe my top strengths are my ability to listen to students' needs and encourage them towards a realistic educational goal. I am also extremely organised and prioritise time…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence. It's not just about helping them get the right answers, but about making them feel capable and supported in their learning journey. When a student believes in themselves, they’re more likely to stay motivated, take initiative, and keep improving—even…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is instil confidence in the student. One thing I have observed is, even if you teach a child the entire syllabus to the best of your abilities, they won't perform well in an examination if they don't have the self confidence. I always believe it's best to reassure a student that they know what…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them towards a position of personal and academic growth. Irrespective of whether the students growth is minuscule or large, any sort of development should be rewarded. Thus, it is the role of a tutor to assist their student(s) to cultivate the ability to progress. I would say my…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, make concepts clear, and encourage independent thinking. It’s not just about giving answers, but helping them understand the process so they feel capable of tackling problems on their own. So, creating a supportive environment where they feel…

I think the biggest thing a tutor should not do is view the student from their own perspective, as that can lead to biases and frustration with a student not understanding a certain piece of content. Everything needs to be looked at through a lens, so that the correct procedures can be taken to ensure the student has a favourable experience. I…

Being approachable is very important, as I don't want students to feel scared or hesitant to ask for help. Asking for feedback is another important thing that a tutor should do. As a tutor, I will always aim to improve the way that I teach, so asking for feedback can help me adjust the way I teach students, allowing for an improved teaching…

The most important thing for a tutor is not to provide the answer but rather to assist the student in reaching the solution. As a tutor, I will not provide the solution for students or instruct them on assignments. My intention will be to release ideas and process them to attain the correct outcome. Through this method, students will learn how to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster a positive learning environment, build the student’s confidence, and help them develop the skills to become independent learners. Local Reviews

Thanh has increased my daughter's confidence in her maths ability. She has a no nonsense but fun approach that keeps a teenager positive about continuing tutoring. My daughter likes that Thanh has different methods of teaching concepts that make more sense to her. And best of all she is positive about my daughters progress.

Inside Glen WaverleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Kye worked on long multiplication with two- and three-digit numbers (including zeroes) and was introduced to division using visual strategies.

Year 7 student Elle focused on probability concepts, tackling practice questions involving multiple events and converting fractions to decimals as part of test preparation.

For Year 8, revision for Kye included rearranging algebraic equations and reviewing fundamental skills in bracket multiplication, helping consolidate methods for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student struggled to bring past tests for review, which meant missed chances to clarify recurring mistakes—"he couldn't check which algebra steps were lost in the test."

In Year 8 maths, forgetting to attempt set homework limited practice with foundational topics like BEDMAS and basic equations.

One Year 6 student often tried questions in their head without showing working; this hid errors when tackling area problems.

Across both junior and senior years, not recording confusing questions during school videos led to gaps that lingered into lessons.

Without these process tweaks, confusion quietly accumulates between sessions.

Recent Achievements

A Glen Waverley tutor noticed some great changes lately. Kye, a high school student, recently brought home his data test with 93%—a big leap after earlier trouble remembering statistics concepts, and he now checks his notes to solve new problems without prompting.

Elle, also in high school, picked up algebraic angle questions much faster than before; she's started explaining her working out aloud rather than guessing quietly.

Meanwhile, Trishelle (primary) has begun completing all her homework each week on her own initiative and points out exactly which maths areas still worry her before starting new tasks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley Secondary College.
