I believe there are several things a tutor can deliver to her students, the primary of which is to instill a sense of confidence and can-do attitude among them. This means my role will not only limit to a tutor but also a mentor, guiding my students on multiple aspects of their academic path. As a seasoned tutor and teacher of English, I'd say my…

1. A tutor can shape how a student thinks about a particular topic/subject. If while teaching something the tutor himself/herself is not interested then the student will be less likely to pay 100% attention 2. A tutor can empower the student to learn better and at their own pace. Just letting the student know that it is okay if you take more time…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I believe that results are mostly achieved through the effort of the students themselves, so as a tutor I try my best to cover all the concepts and to provide my students with support materials, but I also make sure that my students…

I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide encouragement and support, and to teach skills for problem solving, learning, and managing workloads. Subject-specific knowledge and skills are of course extremely important, but developing the confidence to try (and learn from mistakes) and the transferable skills…

Being able to help a student achieve future problems on their own by helping them understand how to do a problem rather than just providing the solution is one of the most important things I consider a tutor can do for a student. I also think it's important to be prepared to help them with their topics by preparing first myself. I believe my…

Our modern world is built around education and every student can expect to experience a lot of it in the future. Therefore, it is most important that a tutor should model genuine interest in learning (both the subject matter and how to learn well), so that the student him/herself enjoys the process and is encouraged to become a lifelong learner.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is reassure them that it is perfectly normal to not understand a topic straight away. Tutors must make sure that students are not ashamed of needing help, and do not feel 'stupid' or 'dumb' for not understanding. I am a very patient person who is good at listening. When I am in a tutoring role…

The most important thing is to develop the students confidence and give them the ability to take on problems on their own later down the track. I feel that this is the main key to success as without this ability the student will give up half way. Empowerment and showing them that it isn't as hard as what they think is crucial. Inspire students to understand the importance and broader concepts within mathematics. A tutor can tailor instruction to meet the specific needs, learning style, and pace of the student. Moreover, students can help students understand complex concepts by providing clear explanations, examples, and demonstrations. Additionally, a tutor can assess the student's strengths and weaknesses in a subject and use this assessment to create…

A tutor should be patient and never say something is easy. A tutor MUST make the student comfortable with their learning by building a friendship with them, so that they always want to return to EZY Math Tutoring. A tutor must also put aside everything else in their life to assist the student: even if I have a bad day I cannot let that lessen my performance while teaching the student. Finally, a tutor…

Inside Glenelg EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Finn worked on profit and loss, focusing on calculating percentage profit and loss in word problems, as well as applying ratios and proportions to real-life assignments.

Year 8 student James revised statistics topics including mean, median, mode, and also explored circular motion with a focus on understanding centripetal force using quick revision activities.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Alex practiced converting metric units for length, mass, and capacity alongside estimating and measuring area using standard units.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3, missing or incomplete recall of multiplication tables and number facts slowed progress with division and mixed operations; "Zion needs to memorize the timestable up to 8 to consolidate what have we covered in the lesson."

Messy or inconsistent labelling on place value boards caused confusion when working between decimals and whole numbers.

In a Year 10 Physics session, over-reliance on notes for trigonometric values and integration formulas meant slower problem-solving—especially under exam conditions.

A Year 12 student was observed mixing up formulas for derivatives and antiderivatives, which led to repeated errors despite practice.

In each case, lack of secure recall forced frequent pauses mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Glenelg East tutor noticed that a Year 9 student, after previously needing guidance on assignments, recently attempted and solved most questions in two maths assignments independently for the first time.

In a high school session, Chloe began tackling ratio problems by herself—last month she needed step-by-step help but now solves several unaided during lessons.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who once hesitated to read aloud is now bringing books from home to share spelling lists and short writing pieces with the tutor, clearly taking more initiative in reading tasks than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenelg Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glenelg Primary School.
