A tutor can improve one's overall understand of the subject, not just a specific understanding about a material. That is important because it is building the bigger picture of each subject in the long term. I am flexible in my teaching method, and I am able to adjust to each student depending on what they…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to provide a space where the student feels accepted, motivated and challenged in a strong and positive way. I believe that it is very important to be an excellent listener and problem solver, and to provide encouragement and feedback at all times. My strong qualities are patience,…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to guide and mentor students beyond simply teaching content. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Encouraging students to understand the fundamentals and enjoy the learning process builds long-term confidence and…

A tutor MUST make the student comfortable with their learning by building a friendship with them, so that they always want to return to EZY Math Tutoring. A tutor must also put aside everything else in their life to assist the student: even if I have a bad day I cannot let that lessen my performance while teaching the student. Finally, a tutor…

I think that the most important things that a tutor should have when teaching students is to dedicate as much Time as possible to the student in order to understand the tasks they are required to do. Patience is also another important thing to have as things take time. Dedication, not giving up on the student, everyone learns at their own…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them and notice. Students pay more attention and are willing to learn when they feel that their opinions are heard and acknowledged. I am an extremely patient person. I can work with each student as an individual and let them grow and work at their own pace. I am also an…

Aside from helping them get better academically, I think helping the student feel seen and understood when explaining an idea that may be challenging to them is important. It is important for their self esteem, and helping them feel more motivated to get better at what they're studying. Building a rapport with them is just as important as teaching…

Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Mastery learning is a way of designing units of work so that each set of tasks focuses on a particular learning objective and students must master a task to move onto the next one. The tutor should also help the…

I feel a tutor must be able to invoke a sense of interest and joy in a students minds for the subject they teach. As a tutor, you are someone who has studied the subject beforehand and are more knowledgeable about the subject than a student who is just starting out. This makes it difficult for tutors to reach their maximum potential while teaching…

The most important things I can do for a student, is to put myself in their shoes when teaching. Often some students take longer to understand, comprehend or apply the knowledge taught. It' so important to go at their pace, whilst challenging them as well, because there's nothing we can't achieve if we set our minds to it. It' important to simply…

The most important thing a tutor can do is make sure they don't generalize their teaching across all students. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empower the individual to believe they can do it. This requires inspiring growth and motivation, as you cannot force someone to learn but only encourage one to try their best. The most important thing in tutoring is ensuring teaching is catered to each individual student. A tutoring session is often set up as a one-on-one session allowing a unique relationship between student and tutor, whereby a tutor can gain a deep understanding of the teaching that works best for a student, and ways that may not work so well. As a…

A tutor uses his/ her knowledge to assist the student. However, in that learning process, tutor not only assists with strengthening subject comprehension but also can help boosting the student's confidence, as well as building important learning skills. Building a strong, personal relationship with student is also important for a tutor in order to…

Inside Glenelg EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Finn worked on profit and loss, focusing on calculating percentage profit and loss in word problems, as well as applying ratios and proportions to real-life assignments.

Year 8 student James revised statistics topics including mean, median, mode, and also explored circular motion with a focus on understanding centripetal force using quick revision activities.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Alex practiced converting metric units for length, mass, and capacity alongside estimating and measuring area using standard units.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3, missing or incomplete recall of multiplication tables and number facts slowed progress with division and mixed operations; "Zion needs to memorize the timestable up to 8 to consolidate what have we covered in the lesson."

Messy or inconsistent labelling on place value boards caused confusion when working between decimals and whole numbers.

In a Year 10 Physics session, over-reliance on notes for trigonometric values and integration formulas meant slower problem-solving—especially under exam conditions.

A Year 12 student was observed mixing up formulas for derivatives and antiderivatives, which led to repeated errors despite practice.

In each case, lack of secure recall forced frequent pauses mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Glenelg East tutor noticed that a Year 9 student, after previously needing guidance on assignments, recently attempted and solved most questions in two maths assignments independently for the first time.

In a high school session, Chloe began tackling ratio problems by herself—last month she needed step-by-step help but now solves several unaided during lessons.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who once hesitated to read aloud is now bringing books from home to share spelling lists and short writing pieces with the tutor, clearly taking more initiative in reading tasks than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenelg Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glenelg Primary School.
