A good tutor is able to help a student consolidate their knowledge and improve their skills in areas they are lacking so that they are able to perform to the best of their ability. My strengths are a strong understanding of the material I teach, a friendly approach, good communication skills and a strong belief that I can help my students achieve…

One of the most important skills for a tutor is to be able to word and explain concepts in a multitude of ways, rather than having one single explanation. Being able to explain a concept or theory from its most basic components and then slowly build up the information for the student is one of the most important skills to have and thing to do for…

Everybody learns differently, and trying to apply the same approach to everyone is going to leave students struggling and frustrated. I adapt my teaching style to the way a student learns, and don't enforce a certain way of thinking - instead, I equip them with the tools to approach any problem in a way that works for them. I have two years'…

I believe a tutor should complement, not replace, teachers and school. Instead, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to take advantage of the time they spend with students individually to identify the core roadblock that prevents their understanding, and then clear it, in a way that teachers, with a class of thirty students,…

A tutor has an integral part of a student's schooling journey. Obviously, a tutor is going to assist students with their academic needs, but there are also other important duties that a tutor must fulfill. From my own experience, I can say that a great tutor seeks to understand the student's ambitions. This includes but is not limited to…

Changing the concept of learning from being a chore to being a way to grow is the most important thing a tutor can do. Changing the mentality and the sigma behind learning, creates a foundation where students can reach new heights through their own drive. I see myself as being quite a hospitable person, as someone who seeks to serve. Helping…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide a positive and healthy learning environment. A tutor should also be able to help a student reach his or her academic potential. I am a very understanding and patient individual. Encourage them. It is important to make a student feel like they are doing well. Everyone needs encouragement, especially someone who is already struggling. Help him to go further and improve himself by providing better advice than a classroom teacher. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help faciliate and devolop an independant learning process. By this I mean helping the student to learn, by not just giving them the answer but by helping them to reach the answer on their own. This way they will be able to do similar probelms in future, without assistance, and…

The most important thing a tutor can be is encouraging and patient, not everyone can grasp everything on their first run-through nor should they be expected to. The tutor can help a student to build confidence as well as help pupil in the study by making them practice on their weak points, as a teacher never judge students weakness but helps them to improve it. Primarily, a tutor needs to be someone the student can depend on for sound knowledge of the content. Generally…

A tutor has to enable the student. Teaching them specific knowledge only goes so far. A tutor needs to give a student confidence that they can overcome their academic obstacles. Teach a student how to obtain resources in order to learn in their own time too. A tutor should be someone that the student can lean back on, if they have trouble finding…

Teaching students on how to be effective with your studying time is the most important aspect in a students years of learning. Inside GlenroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia focused on linear equations and simultaneous equations, including tackling worded problems step-by-step.

Year 10 student Daniel practiced structuring and writing oral presentations in preparation for an upcoming assessment, using example prompts to build confidence.

For primary support, Year 4 student Emily worked through addition and subtraction with four-digit numbers as well as identifying and describing 3-D shapes, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

Incomplete homework was a recurring issue in both upper primary and high school students.

For example, one Year 7 student repeatedly left English essays unfinished despite a signed contract—this resulted in missed opportunities for feedback and impacted his spelling test performance, as "most of the spelling words are taken from his homework."

In senior years, a student preparing for public speaking assignments neglected to complete assigned drafts, leading to less confidence during oral presentations.

A Year 6 maths student's messy layout—"he struggled aligning sums, which caused mistakes"—meant extra time spent correcting basic errors instead of advancing to more complex problems.

Recent Achievements

A Glenroy tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who used to hesitate when tackling worded maths problems now confidently translates them into equations and solves them with much less prompting.

In Year 7 English, one student who previously struggled with structuring essays has begun planning their arguments independently and linking ideas between class and tutoring sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 was initially hard on himself for spelling errors but is now more accepting of mistakes during tests, showing resilience by quickly moving on and finishing all questions without dwelling on previous slip-ups.
