It is to show them the value of education and help them distinguish why it is important for them to learn the subject. If they have the value, they will be a great person in the future. As a Licensed Engineer, it is a strength because most of engineering subjects revolves in math and science. I do have a pride in my license for this…

Build interest. For younger student, most of them are still trying to find their interest in a certain field. The best thing I can do is to build interest with my humorous skill. Interest can lead students to an automatic learning mode, they will intake the related knowledge and digest them by themselves, and have the ability to do self-study,…

The most important thing in teaching any subject is showing the big picture along with the nitty-gritty. I hope that my student can see the beauty in the sometimes boring schoolwork, and see the deep underlying connection and unity of it all. However, sometimes desperate times happen, and then we must drop the profound thoughts and do what needs…

Give the student confidence. Confidence either to persist with the hard work till they hit a breakthrough or the confidence to thing around the problems. There are a lot of students who don't lack in talent and just a couple little things are holding them back. Solving those can really help them grow. I am able to seperate a topic into byte sized…

For me, the most important thing is helping students actually enjoy math and feel comfortable with the process of not knowing right away. A lot of math is about sitting with that discomfort, resisting the urge to panic, and trusting that if you think logically, you’ll find a way through—even if it’s not the “textbook†method. I want…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for students is making sure that the student completely understands the concept and does not try to rote learn it. I believe that a tutor is a person who can change the point of view of a student through which they can grasp the concept well and improves their understanding ability. I own…

Make sure that you're not doing the work for them, only assisting them in their learning- For it will be them sitting the exam come the end of the year. By teaching them not only the subject matter but also the skills to mold themselves to every problem or question, you'll be instilling confidence in them that no matter what is introduced to them…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student extend beyond academic instruction. While helping students grasp challenging concepts is crucial, equally vital is fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment. A tutor should adapt teaching methods to suit the student's unique learning style, provide constructive feedback, and…

The roll of a tutor is two-fold. Firstly, to help students understand the material they are working with. There are many ways to go about this, but one of the most important roles of a tutor is to be able to bring intuition to the abstract. This in addition to introducing effective methods for solving problems. The second key roll is helping…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is engage them within a subject, keep them interested to learn more, and motivate students to do their absolute best. In my opinion, it's most important to help students to understand basic concepts and theories when tutoring them. Different parameters that determine WHAT is important to a student vary largely depending on the teacher, student’s needs and the learning content. As a tutor, I believe it is critical for providing a space for students to not be afraid to be wrong and foster engagement. A tutor must allow students to think for themselves and provide prompts which enable more critical and deeper thinking. A tutor must be able to understand the different needs for each student and be able to provide the…

Give the student the tools needed for the problem, not the answer. This gives the student the satisfaction of finding the solution themselves, as well as building their confidence to go further. Inside GlenungaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Louis practised subtraction and worked on understanding the concept of times tables, focusing especially on the 2s, using hands-on activities to reinforce learning.

Year 10 student Maja tackled financial maths by working through worded problems involving discounts and percentage increases in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sam reviewed calculus concepts such as derivatives and addressed previous challenges with logarithms by applying these skills to more complex questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left working out of algebra solutions, admitting, "I just get lazy when writing and choose the easier route," which made it harder to catch errors with negatives.

In Year 11 English, a student's essay drafts showed persistent run-on sentences—despite being able to identify them aloud, he struggled to fix them independently on his iPad.

A Year 9 student relied heavily on quoting large slabs of text in history assignments rather than summarising ideas in his own words.

In Year 7 maths, times tables gaps led to slow progress solving fraction problems and meant more time spent counting than reasoning through new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Glenunga tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who previously struggled to write at length; last week, he completed an entire essay independently, something he'd never managed before.

In senior maths, a high schooler who used to hesitate with statistics scored 85 on his most recent assessment—well above his previous result—and has begun setting personal targets for the next exam.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often guessed quietly when stuck now openly asks for help and explains her thinking during problem-solving tasks. She finished all her addition questions without needing prompts this session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fullarton Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glenunga International High School.
