A tutor must allow students to think for themselves and provide prompts which enable more critical and deeper thinking. A tutor must be able to understand the different needs for each student and be able to provide the…

Their dreams become my dreams for them, so I will never let my students give up on reaching their goals. Improvements do not happen overnight, but whenever they do happen, no matter how small, I…

This makes the most out of their time and also helps to make them more confident in their studies, which also builds trust between the student and tutor which is key to making them…

A tutor should make sure that the student is well-engaged in the session but still focussing on their weaknesses and strengths. A tutor should make a personalized learning experience for every student and build a relationship of trust with the student.…

The most important thing a tutor must do is to assess the student's answer and provide feedback, as that really helps them learn from their mistakes. Equally integral is, taking a doubt session as solving the doubts of the student not only improves learning but also develops a sense of confidence in the student about the subject, which develops a…

When a tutor is enthusiastic on the content they are teaching, this transfers to the student. I am patient and try to break down complex content ideas into manageable ideas. Our modern world is built around education and every student can expect to experience a lot of it in the future. Therefore, it is most important that a tutor should model genuine interest in learning (both the subject matter and how to learn well), so that the student him/herself enjoys the process and is encouraged to become a lifelong learner.…

Inside GlenungaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Louis practised subtraction and worked on understanding the concept of times tables, focusing especially on the 2s, using hands-on activities to reinforce learning.

Year 10 student Maja tackled financial maths by working through worded problems involving discounts and percentage increases in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sam reviewed calculus concepts such as derivatives and addressed previous challenges with logarithms by applying these skills to more complex questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left working out of algebra solutions, admitting, "I just get lazy when writing and choose the easier route," which made it harder to catch errors with negatives.

In Year 11 English, a student's essay drafts showed persistent run-on sentences—despite being able to identify them aloud, he struggled to fix them independently on his iPad.

A Year 9 student relied heavily on quoting large slabs of text in history assignments rather than summarising ideas in his own words.

In Year 7 maths, times tables gaps led to slow progress solving fraction problems and meant more time spent counting than reasoning through new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Glenunga tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who previously struggled to write at length; last week, he completed an entire essay independently, something he'd never managed before.

In senior maths, a high schooler who used to hesitate with statistics scored 85 on his most recent assessment—well above his previous result—and has begun setting personal targets for the next exam.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often guessed quietly when stuck now openly asks for help and explains her thinking during problem-solving tasks. She finished all her addition questions without needing prompts this session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fullarton Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glenunga International High School.
