Year 7 student Isabel reviewed expanding and factorising algebraic expressions, as well as simplifying algebraic fractions.

In Year 10, Em focused on the more challenging parts of her maths folio task—especially extension problems—and picked up tips for formatting equations clearly in Word; she also started a new Chemistry topic on Reduction and Oxidation (REDOX).

Meanwhile, Year 11 student worked through revision for an upcoming calculus test, covering first principles and how to find tangents and normals to a curve.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student's folio task "needed quite a lot of reformatting," showing that organizing written work into formal documents is still a hurdle.

During test revision in Year 9, another tended to memorise problem types rather than understanding underlying logic, which made it difficult to adapt when unfamiliar questions appeared.

In Year 11, low motivation to independently complete major assignments meant homework was sometimes left unfinished or deprioritised.

As a tutor observed, "she hadn't brought her maths test home," so reviewing mistakes and consolidating learning became impossible that week—leaving gaps unresolved for the next session.

Recent Achievements

A Glynde tutor noticed one high school student begin finishing relevant modules on her own, a big shift from earlier sessions where she waited for guidance before moving ahead.

Another older student who previously hesitated to tackle proofs managed to work through most of a tricky maths folio proof independently, only asking for minor help and openly discussing different solution strategies.

In Year 7, one student—after dreading test revision—bravely revisited a difficult assessment with the tutor and identified exactly which areas needed more practice, rather than avoiding them.
