A very personal thing I like to teach my students is to pay attention to the small details. Each and every word, each and every equation. It is the ability to start at a granular level that makes the grand ideas and concepts easier to understand. My strength is really my ability to understand the student well. I believe different methods of…

I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. I am a young person, so I am able to understand a child in many situations. I am aware of mental health and the…

A tutor should be patient and should be able to accomodate oneself with the students. The main aim of the tutor should be to suit to the needs of the child. I am extremely patient with students and I can listen to all that they have to offer. I can deal with kids since I have a younger brother. My biggest strength is that I wouldn't hesitate to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to empower the student by guiding them with their learning & always be patient at the same time. By guiding students, and assisting them to find easier way to solve maths and English problems, they gain confidence, and independance too. I am extremely patient, friendly, and have excellent communication…

Studying can be arduous and frustrating to many people as it requires the brain to work to overcome the challenges given by school teachers. When encountering hardships, it is natural for the brain to act reluctant to perform the tasks as wanted. For this is why I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to be capable of…

I think the best thing a tutor can do is help the student to complete their learning cycle. So the student can continue doing it by themselves. The idea is to be a temporary guide in their academic journey that they need support. 1. Strong background in Maths. 2. Patience 3. I like to listen and motivate students to do their best. 4. Good…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be well aware of what he/she is teaching and must be an expert on it. Without this it's a waste of both a student's and teacher's time and money. For this I personally need to get prepared by learning teaching materials and technics at home before I start a lesson. Whatever…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being able to be creative and innovative in teaching so that they will learn in the most effective way. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a genuine interest in the subject. This helps make learning fun and sparks curiosity of the student to learn more. Relate. The student will understand the concept once it resonates with something the student is interested in. A tutor needs to describe the concept, demonstrate the concept and invite the student to attempt the concept. This open dialogue, dispelling fear of failure and welcoming the opportunity to learn is an important attribute a tutor must…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to boost their self-confidence. Learning, like everything else, is dependent on one's perception of one's abilities. Tutors play a different role than teachers and parents, which puts them in a unique position to help students. Personal relationships are fundamental to student success; the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor instils trust and respect, both of which are necessary ingredients for students to learn effectively.…

A tutor needs to be able to imbibe in a student, a way of thinking about things, instead of just spoonfeeding the content and making everything easy for the student. It is very important to clear the basics of the student before anything else. Once the base is strong enough, the student will be able to handle any level of complexity in things. I…

Inside GracevilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Oliver practised long multiplication and division, as well as working with decimals and identifying different angles.

Year 7 student Sophie focused on graphing and number lines, using plotting activities to reinforce understanding.

For Year 10, Emily worked through solving line equations between specific points and applied problem-solving skills to algebraic contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student reviewing past test results in maths sometimes missed chances to correct errors—notes read, "going over past test results and some more problem solving," but little feedback was acted on before moving ahead.

In Year 8, one learner found it tough to follow multi-step questions in algebra, losing track of process when calculations became lengthy; as noted, "a bit tough following long form multi-tiered questions."

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student practicing long multiplication often left working untidy, making it harder to spot mistakes. In each case, confusion or uncertainty slowed progress rather than lack of content knowledge.

Recent Achievements

One Graceville tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid exam prep now actively seeking out practice problems, especially in linear functions—she even combined equations on her own for the first time last week.

A Year 7 student, previously hesitant with problem solving, surprised his tutor by tackling multi-step homework questions independently and finishing ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who'd struggled to distinguish certain letters can now sound out almost the entire alphabet and self-corrects when mixing up 'J' and 'G'. Last session, he read a full page aloud without skipping any tricky letters.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Indooroopilly Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Christ the King School.
