Ultimately, my goal is to empower students to become independent learners who are aware of their strengths and struggles and know how to tackle them. My strengths are adaptability and patience. Knowing how to adapt to the students pace and patiently responding to their questions is an effective way to keep the student motivated and excited to learn new concepts. I am very…

As a tutor it is my responsibility to make sure the student understands and grasps the concept of the lesson. I am student myself so I know the struggles and the laziness that comes with having to study. I think a tutor should not just focus on studying but also make the study environment a little relaxed and enjoyable as it is hard to concentrate…

One of the most important things when tutoring is to maxmise your effort to help a student in any way possible, without actually doing an assignment/answering the question for them. I believe my role as a tutor is to help grow self-efficacy and to empower my students, so they are confident in tackling any problem. I am well spoken and am able to…

I consider the most important attributes that a tutor can have for a student is the ability to listen, to be patient, and to be able to explain concepts and questions in more ways than one. I personally struggled during my final years of school (11 and 12). Despite the struggles, I applied all my effort and learnt valuable lessons. Through my…

The one thing more than anything that a tutor can do is to offer a safe place where students will not be afraid of failure. Then guide them step by step until they understand the concept, and encourage them to carry on even when things get difficult. A good tutor gives confidence and no knowledge. As a student, I am fully aware of social pressures in school whereby a student may not be able to understand a concept completely. Individualised learning is also important as tailoring lessons to meet each student's unique needs and learning styles ensures they grasp concepts effectively. I think that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to truly understand them and their learning ways. For example, I am a visual learner and so I learn better using diagrams, colours and videos. But not everyone is a visual learner and so they might need other aids to help them learn concepts such as songs or textbooks. I…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not force them into studying and to not put too much pressure on them to understand a certain topic. I believe that I can teach them in a way I have been taught and make them understand a certain problem easily. And even if I fail to make them understand I study the problem…

Local Reviews

Reliable and good quality tutor a little expensive though
Vic Caplikas, Greystanes

Inside GreystanesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Josh practiced multiplication and division skills, as well as NAPLAN reading and grammar tasks.

In Year 10, Sarah focused on expanding quadratic equations using perfect square and difference of two squares methods, and reviewed schoolwork on taxable income calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student David tackled compound interest problems by identifying variables within the formula and worked through a range of practice questions to prepare for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student avoided showing algebraic working when substituting values into y = mx + b; as a tutor noted, "he went straight to answers, so mistakes in signs weren't visible until the end." This made it harder to spot where errors crept in and slowed progress with intercepts.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 chemistry student hesitated to attempt longer exam responses on ionic compounds, often leaving questions incomplete rather than structuring partial answers.

In Year 5 maths, reluctance to write out working for multiplication algorithms led to confusion when checking steps.

Each scenario left students less confident during revision and more reliant on last-minute guesswork.

Recent Achievements

One Greystanes tutor noted a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with indices and surds now answering those questions independently, needing far less guidance.

A high schooler working on compound interest has shifted from confusion to accurately solving for any variable in the formula, even attempting harder scenarios without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often guessed during worded maths problems is now breaking them down step by step and writing out their reasoning before solving.

In one session, this younger student finished all ten worded multiplication problems with her written steps clearly shown.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holroyd High School.
