One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to form a really strong connection with them so that the student is not afraid to ask questions and gives them someone to trust/rely on. Another important factor when tutoring is to make sure that the student truly understands the concept they are stuck on and can easily apply it to…

I believe a tutor is there to guide and support a student to their best of their ability so that they may achieve the goals that they wish to reach. In doing so, a tutor should be patient and adaptive in their teaching approach, to allow students to push their own limits and unlock their full academic potential. I consider myself a very flexible…

I think a tutor's role goes beyond simply offering solutions to problems; instead, they should steer students towards finding answers and ensure a solid grasp of the required steps. Additionally, adaptability is crucial, as teaching methods should be flexible to accommodate diverse learning styles. A tutor ought to be non-judgmental, patient, and…

Ensuring this while maintaining the quality is important Taking the students point of view into account whenever they're tackling a problem and building on it instead of telling them they're incorrect if the initial steps are…

I believe taking ample effort in preplanning lessons, thinking about the topic for different perspectives is vey important. The most important thing, I think is to stick with the student till they understand the topic and not race through the course plan. I think I am very creative in approaching problems. Tutoring is very different to a typical classroom setting. Each session is unique and solely focused on the one student. This one-to-one learning experience is something many students wouldn’t normally get in a classroom. Naturally, they’ll be able to ask as many questions as they want. As a result, I’ll feel I’m making a real difference…

I don't believe that the most important things that a tutor can do for a student start in the classroom. The most important thing in achieving desired outcomes in school, or any discipline, is attitude. It starts with understanding that a whole is made up of parts, and that ten minutes a day, although small, adds up over the course of three…

I believe making a student become confident in their own ability is very important. Tutoring with Ezymaths was so simple to organise. The team took the time to ask questions and get a real understanding of my sons needs and where we wanted to get him. Our tutor ,Sai, is absolutely lovely I cannot recommend her highly enough. My sons confidence and ability has improved dramatically.

Inside GuildfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Huda worked on equivalent fractions and simplifying them, using number lines to compare and order values.

Year 7 student Amina focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages, as well as solving problems involving decimal addition.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Daniel practiced interpreting data in graphs by identifying mean and mode, alongside revising probability concepts such as independent and dependent events.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student found it difficult to communicate confusion during problem-solving, often copying previous solutions rather than expressing uncertainty—"he needs to tell me when he does not understand," a tutor noted.

In senior years, one student's tendency to avoid double-checking answers and rely on teacher cues led to repeated errors in Methods assessments, especially under time pressure.

Homework completion was inconsistent for a Year 10 student; missing tasks meant knowledge gaps lingered into following lessons.

Meanwhile, a primary student's focus drifted easily when subtraction involved double-digit numbers, resulting in unfinished work and missed feedback opportunities before moving on.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Guildford noticed a Year 9 student, Younas, who used to hesitate when confused now speaks up about difficulties, letting them tackle tricky maths topics together—he even completed his homework independently and could explain where he made errors.

In a recent session with Andrew (Year 6), the tutor saw him persist through frustration during a challenging division activity; rather than giving up, he worked through mistakes on his own and explained his reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started using their finger as a guide while reading, which helped them move through texts more smoothly without losing their place.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Guildford Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Guildford Public School.
