The most important gift that a tutor can give to a student is providing knowledge of how to think independently. A tutor can give hope, help develop self-confidence within students as well as show them the right way to proceed in life. I believe, for students a tutor is like a blacksmith who can provide them with all the tools they will need to…

As mentioned, creating an alternate method for rote learning is to let the concept sink in through simple derivations and i have used it in my past so i'd love to pass it on to my students. For being a mathematics tutor, i believe the most important element is to not just bombard students with formulas but to explain it to them where they came…

Ultimately, I want to help my students recognize the potential within themselves. I graduated in 2019 with an ATAR of 99.00. I have tutored 14 students over 3 years. I am…

Throughout my academic life my teachers and tutors and their passion for learning has sparked my own. Build their confidence. Every student is different. One cannot treat them on the same plain. Some are aware of their shortcomings and are just confused. Some are hardworking while others can be smart-workers or differently remarked. A tutor must recognise that talent in them and help them use it in growing. Explaining instances metaphorically…

The most important thing a tutor can do is support their students. A tutor needs to provide support and consideration of a student's abilities, and empower the student to achieve beyond what they think they can achieve. In particular, for younger students, I believe that tutors can and will help to lay the foundational stones that will provide the driving force to empower students to their best. Even if a…

Teach the lesson content easily where a student can grab it without any stress. Ezymath tutoring made an effort to provide my daughter with a tutor who had a maths specialty. Ella was polite, punctual and spent the time to understand and assist my daughter in her weak areas.
Pam, Heidelberg Heights

Inside Heidelberg HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily explored factorising and substitution in complex algebraic expressions to build foundational skills.

For Year 10, Marcus worked through scatter plots and used Pearson's coefficient to interpret bivariate data visually and numerically.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Olivia focused on least square regression lines for statistical analysis, as well as reviewing data transformation methods relevant for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student sometimes forgot essential materials—her maths books and calculator—which meant gaps in tracking what concepts she'd struggled with.

In VCE, one student's written solutions for statistics were "hard to follow," making it tough to pinpoint errors or show full working for exam marks.

Several times across Years 7–10, answers were mathematically correct but missed the actual question requirement; as one tutor noted, "she answered with a valid calculation, but not what was asked."

When students misinterpret questions or leave their resources behind, class time gets spent on clarifying basics rather than pushing ahead.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Heidelberg Heights noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to speak up, now asks for clarification whenever something doesn't make sense and then applies the feedback to solve practice questions accurately.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student managed to get through an entire chapter ahead of their class for the first time—last term they struggled just to keep pace.

For a younger learner, one primary school student who was reluctant to try tougher maths problems is now willing to attempt more complicated questions independently and often persists until finding a solution.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
