The tutor's first job is converting hard 'textbook language' to easy and illustrative concepts. Next is polishing the student's skills with extensive exercises while making sure he has time for other hobbies. It helps if the tutor is aware of things such as fun interactive quizzes or videos that helps makes concepts seem simpler while also keeping…

1. Be prepared. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to be prepared for the session. That includes preparing the lesson beforehand and getting everything ready. 2. Reviewing the fundamentals with the students. This means not jumping to advanced topics with the students when they might need a little refresher on the subject. In math, it is…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When a tutor…

The most important thing that a tutor must do is form a genuine connection with the student based on trust and integrity. This can be achieved through humour, motivation and sharing likes/dislikes. This allows for long-term teaching because of a comfortable environment allowing the student to perform to the best of their ability. My questioning…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to be a reliable guide to the students. Every students has their own way of learning and pace of learning. There is no one size fits all when it comes to tutoring. It is important that a tutor is communicating with the students, understand their needs and be there for the student whenever they need…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. Personally, when I was a student the most important effect of good teachers and tutors was regaining confidence in myself. They showed me that it was okay to fail, how to bounce back, and how to learn from my mistakes. Having a strong education is a wonderful thing, but having been through the whole K-12-Uni-Workforce pipeline by far the best…

Tutor can be patient with their student and let them learn at their pace. A mentor or teacher can teach his/her students about reality and prepare them for various situation that they will face in future. Teacher can act as a friend, a motivator and a helping hand. What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

The most important thing a tutor can do is recognise their students ability level and mould their teaching to that level. Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a tutor can do. Inside HomebushTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Saner focused on **Business Studies topics including Operations, Marketing influences, and the Finance syllabus points**, as well as tackling exam-style questions; in Maths, recent lessons covered Networking, Critical Path Analysis, and **revising errors from her last assessment**.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Isaac worked through **essay writing techniques using Deltora Quest as a base text** and explored literary devices such as sensory imagery and personification in both reading and creative writing.

For Year 6, lessons with Mia addressed **analysis of advertisements for class assessment** and understanding different types of humour through targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with consistent revision in Business Studies, often neglecting to create summary notes or complete practice papers; as one tutor observed, "more focus on maths would be ideal," but daily practice was repeatedly missed.

In English for Year 9, reliance on leading questions meant written analysis remained shallow and dependent—prompts were needed even for basic context explanations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student left lesson tasks unfinished due to overwhelm from other assignments, pushing English work to the last minute. This led to rushed drafts and missed opportunities for feedback before assessment deadlines arrived.

Recent Achievements

A Homebush tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with critical path analysis now tackling complex business networks independently and even revising content more thoroughly between sessions.

Another high school student, after hesitating to ask for help, is now clearly identifying which maths sections he finds tricky and actively seeks guidance during tutoring.

In Year 5 English, one student who used to give very brief answers is now regularly stating their own opinions about texts and can explain how characters feel in stories.

Last week, that same student wrote out examples of personification without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like The McDonald College.
