One of the most important things tutor can do for a student is provide them with a lot of feedbacks as well as lots of revision. It is from feedback that students understand where they have been going wrong and how to improve on it. Revision is essential because knowing content is one thing, learning to apply them is another. From experience, I…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is understand the needs of each student and adapt their teaching style in order to maximise the benefits that the student can get from tutoring. I've had my fair share of tutors growing up and the best tutors I've had weren't necessarily the most intelligent. They were empathetic individuals…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to realise when a student actually understands a topic, or if they need more help. Too often students will say that they understand but they don't want to admit they still don't. The tutor should be able to break down a subject in multiple ways, and choose which way fits particular students' learning…

Being able to teach in a way where students are readily motivated and inspired by the way you teach. Balancing between creativity and fundamental aspects of learning will help pave a way for students to unlock their potential. Just being a support for the student in question. Now, obviously, the first idea to jump to there is academically, and this is super important, of course, but also school is a naturally difficult time for a lot of students for a large variety of reasons, and even if the tutor nor student realize it, being there to help dealing with it is a massive…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do is be authentic with a student while also creating a supportive learning environment. While they should improve the students' capabilities and foster confidence, it is key for them to acknowledge their weaknesses and mistakes so the student is able to reflect on them and make sure to not neglect…

Explain. If a tutor can explain a concept in a way a student can understand and then is able to remember it and be able to apply it, the tutor has succeeded in his role. Also being able to listen to students, as a tutor should be able to find small mistakes and correct them as questions require perfection to some degree to achieve maximum marks.…

The most important thing is to make them our friends so that they can share their difficulties with us. Secondly, a tutor should use creative techniques to make concepts easy to understand. I believe that the best tutors must empower students to believe they can learn anything; they celebrate small wins to make learning feel rewarding, not stressful. This helps them see the progress that they made, even if it's from small steps. Additionally, I believe that tutors must be able to build confidence, personalise learning, and inspire…

Help him get to ease with the course, make it not feel like a burden but something the pupil has control over, allow him to see his strengths and focus on the knowledge he is gaining from it, and how he can benefit from it. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put time and effort into the learning experience. In particular, for one on one tutoring, the tutor must be able to go at a pace that suits the student and adapt lesson plans according to the student. The most important thing which a tutor can do for a student is to make him understand the concept instead of just showing him how to solve the problems. Although high results is a must, tutors should also respect or accept what students may want to gain out of their HSC marks. We cannot force students to learn but making the content more interesting will help motivate those who struggle to grasp the concept. The key point is that after every session, the student can leave knowing that they have…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to enrich their understanding and reinvigorate or catalyze a passion in a particular subject. Nowadays, a student's passion for a particular subject dwindles as they go further and further into their high school career. This may be due to external factors such as pressure or…

Inside Horsley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jay worked through collecting like terms and expanding algebraic expressions, using step-by-step examples to reinforce these new skills.

In Year 10, Emily focused on probability, tackling tree diagrams and interpreting fractions within probability scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas reviewed key concepts in Chemistry Module 7 by exploring different types of alcohols and esters, followed by HSC-style practice questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed hesitancy in answering maths questions, asking "is this a trick question?" and missing opportunities to build confidence. This uncertainty led to checking answers less often, with small errors slipping through.

In Year 8 science, one learner's notes were spread across multiple books—making it hard to review and consolidate key ideas efficiently.

For a Year 7 student, skipping working out in algebra meant that sign errors went unnoticed; as noted, "failed to recognise where mistakes went wrong due to the lack of working out." Time was then lost retracing steps instead of moving forward confidently.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Horsley Park noticed a big change with one Year 11 student who, after struggling to ask for help before, now regularly asks questions when stuck and even explains her own thought process aloud—something she hadn't done in earlier sessions.

A Year 9 boy recently began attempting tricky probability homework on his own before asking for guidance, showing real initiative instead of waiting for answers.

In Year 5, a student who was previously hesitant with multiplication has started tackling new problems independently and finished all assigned questions early this week without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marion Catholic Primary School.
