The most important thing a tutor can provide I believe is confidence. This is because students' belief in their abilities will provide them with the clear and confident mind necessary to tackle difficult problems. In order to provide this confidence, I believe following a steady pace of teaching with lots of examples is the way. It is also…

To motivate him/her, and pave the way for him/her to become autonomous with his/her learning. This is typically done by instilling in the student a number of good learning habits. I have developed my own teaching/tutoring philosophy. I call it the 4CE philosophy (pronounced Foresee). It consists of five tenets: 1- Coaching/Coordination 2-…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to persevere in times of academic adversity. This is because if a student cannot believe in themselves, they won't be able to achieve their true capabilities. Only after this encouragement can students reach for the stars. A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a tutor…

A tutor can help increase a student's marks because teachers at school doesn't have the time to help everybody individually. With a tutor its just 1 on 1 for the most part so the main focus would be on that one student. i believe a tutor has to have a solid understanding of all content to provide the best support to a student, has to be patient, must know a range of way to approach a question, and must be readily available to answer questions through online or in person, and a tutor should be friendly and willing to have fun with the lesson so as it doesn't…

Inside HuntingwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Olivia focused on revising financial maths concepts and practicing calculations with percentages and fractions.

For Year 11, Ethan worked through equilibrium expressions including Keq, Ka, Kb, and Ksp, applying these to real exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah completed HSC Chemistry trial paper practice with a focus on enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs Free Energy calculations, consolidating her understanding using past exam problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student left units out of calculations, making it harder to spot errors when revising.

For a Year 12 maths student, "working was messy and difficult to follow," which meant extra time spent untangling steps rather than progressing with new content.

A senior English student rushed written responses and overlooked tense consistency; the tutor noted, "cleaner working out is needed to avoid confusion."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 science student avoided attempting unfamiliar questions—skipping these limited exposure to challenging material and reduced confidence when facing similar tasks in assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Huntingwood noticed a Year 11 student who had struggled with exam mistakes in quadratics took the initiative to correct every error from their last test and showed much stronger understanding of the content this time.

In a Year 9 session, one student who used to skip challenging questions now reattempts all those he gets wrong, asking clarifying questions instead of moving on confused.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who was hesitant about fractions recently worked hard through an entire chapter's revision, managing to solve most problems correctly independently without needing step-by-step prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Evans High School.
