The most important thing a tutor can first do is become a student themselves, understand problems for the students perspective and define a path the students can take rather than provide them with the solutions itself My strengths would include breaking down problems easily, using different methods catered to different students, reaching out to…

Since this is a 1-on-1 tutorial, the tutor must give full attention to the student. Also to find ways to make sessions enjoyable but not to the point of sacrificing the time for teaching. And again to be patient so that the student can fully understand the topics being discussed. My best quality as a tutor would be my patience. I know a lot of…

Not only help them understand a topic they need assistance with, but to change their perspective and resilience to challenges they may face in the future. To make them see that anything is possible no matter how hard it may seem. No one can make me give up on helping a student unless they themselves opt out, and my communication skills (knowing 4…

A tutor can help a student to understand the concepts thoroughly as they get one on one support. Moreover, a tutor can help students achieve the best by motivating them on a personal and academic level. I understand the individual needs of students and can differentiate my teaching to meet the individual needs of students. I try different…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence. In my experience most students had the intrinsic abilities to do well at their studies but faltered due to perceived nervousness and pressure. It is hugely important to show the students that you believe in their abilities and that there is no problem that…

I strongly feel that it is the responsibility of the tutor to make his/her student confident about what he/she knows, rather than making them learn answers by rote. It is the duty of the tutor to support, motivate, and explain things to his/her student. The tutor should also be able to find out the weaknesses of his/her student. Strengths of…

Provide a learning experience that they do not receive in their normal study environment, allowing for potential growth to occur naturally. As a tutor, my primary role is to assist a student’s learning, so I must encourage any natural learning processes they bring to the table, and positive reinforcement will go a long way. My primary strength…

for a student to understand a question is one thing, but a student to understand a whole concept and comfortably execute in a timed environment, is a tutored job done. in order to progress to this step, a tutor must always adapt their teaching methods to the way which a student prefers comfortably. maths problems can be solved in more then one…

Inside Junction VillageTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student James practised structuring TEEL paragraphs for English assignments and reviewed expectations for Year 7 content.

In Year 10, Emily focused on solving linear equations from her recent school test and worked on drawing linear graphs, including finding x- and y-intercepts using graphing methods.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student revised statistics topics such as interpreting box plots and tackled probability questions from the textbook to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled to keep written calculations organized in algebra, with a tutor noting, "her maths layout makes it hard to spot where she went wrong." This disorganization slowed down error correction during lessons.

In Year 3 grammar, another student often left homework incomplete, so progress on conjunctions and prepositions stalled between sessions.

A VCE student preparing for SACs was reluctant to create a bound reference, making revision less effective.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 found it difficult to retain new maths content because practice questions were left unfinished each week—leading to repeated confusion over previously covered material.

Recent Achievements

One Junction Village tutor noticed Ishan could now write a full TEEL paragraph from just a prompt and independently pick out visual images based on written descriptions—something he struggled with before.

In another session, Riley, also in high school, was able to recall key points from previous lessons and confidently apply BODMAS rules without hesitation, showing more initiative during problem-solving than last term.

Meanwhile, an upper primary student who used to quietly guess when unsure has started openly asking for help whenever she's confused, most recently raising her hand after stumbling over multiplication tables.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lighthouse Christian College Cranbourne.
