think one of the most important things a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence. Many students aren’t struggling because they lack ability, but because they feel embarrassed or afraid of getting things wrong. A tutor should create a safe space where they’re not scared to ask questions or admit they don’t understand something. No one…

In my eyes, the best tutor will: 1) Identify the student’s academic goals and work together to create an effectively and realistic plan. 2) Build engaging lessons that truely focus on the students greatest concerns/weakest areas so they feel confident to tackle any related question the HSC may throw at them! 3) Offer support outside of…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to both create a positive connection with the student and still have fun whilst completing work as well as explain the foundational knowledge for concepts being taught. Explaining why for many subjects is simply brushed over in the majority of school, but understanding why allows…

Tutors are there to solidify the concepts that the student has already learned and to ensure that these concepts are understood in the way they work and interact with other aspects of the subject. Being able to apply concepts in the wider aspects of life is also important. I am able to communicate ideas clearly to a student. I also find it easy to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to create a safe and supportive learning environment, provide clear and structured explanations, and adapt teaching methods to suit the student’s individual needs. A tutor should help students develop confidence, critical thinking, and independent learning skills rather than…

A tutor should encourage a student in their studies and try to get them excited about learning, A tutor should be able to equip a student with skills and knowledge so that they can also study and learn at school and at home. I think I am an excellent communicator to all age groups. I know the content and am able to translate concepts to best suit…

Get them feeling comfortable with the fundamentals of what they are struggling with and create a deep-level understanding of the topic. Most importantly, teach them how to think, not what to think. This will give them the cognitive tools that they can apply to future problems. Patience and empathy. I understand everyone learns differently and…

Local Reviews

The whole process of one phone call and then a math tutor was found that fitted my daughter's level of requirement perfectly within days of the initial call. The follow up process has also been excellent. This process was to see if the allocated tutor matched my daughter's needs. I have also been included in the feedback process from the tutor to show the targets achieved each session, a totally positive experience focusing on the student's need and achievements made. I cannot find any fault with Ezymath tutoring.

Inside KanahookaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Cailyn worked on operations with fractions—including addition, subtraction, and division—then applied these to algebraic expressions using pronumerals and indices.

In Year 10, Daniel practised solving problems involving Pythagoras' theorem in both algebraic form and worded contexts, and reviewed tax calculations like stamp duty alongside fuel consumption formulas.

Nicholas, in Year 11, focused on non-right angled trigonometry (using the sine rule), critical path analysis for network concepts, and revisited key skills from past HSC papers to strengthen his understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was reluctant to use a calculator even when stuck on fraction questions, which slowed progress and made reciprocal operations harder to visualise.

In Year 10, a learner relied on memory for area formulas but struggled with unit conversions, especially when converting between non-adjacent units, leading to repeated confusion with calculator formatting.

One Year 12 student did not show working or final statements after calculator use in algebra, so correct answers could not be checked—he does not possess the best capacity to relay such information onto paper.

Across several primary grades, forgetting times tables and formulae caused delays during more complex multiplication and division.

Recent Achievements

One Kanahooka tutor noticed Daniel, a Year 11 student, now double-checks his tax instalment maths by redoing problems—last term he rushed and made mistakes but is showing a much more thorough approach.

In English, Nicholas from Year 12 has shifted from vague essay plans to actively filtering out weaker characters when planning responses, leading to stronger analysis.

Meanwhile, Cailyn in Year 7 used to hesitate with indices and algebraic substitution; this week she independently recalled the right steps for expanding brackets and applied them without prompting during revision.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dapto District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kanahooka High School.
