I think the most important thing a tutor can do is be supportive. All behaviour is belief driven, if a tutor convinces a pupil that he can do it, he will. I believe I am calm, patient, persevering, and supportive. Especially when it comes to perseverance, I will not be deterred if a student doesn't originally understand my explanations as, if I…

Tutors also influence the personality of the student by how they motivate and inspire the student by showing their own passion for the subjects. One of the most important things is that a good tutor can make students like the subject they disliked and give s fresh…

I think adapting to students learning style is vital to allow for the most growth in their education. Tutors are exceptionally valuable as the one on one or small class dynamics allow for the specific needs of a student to be catered for, giving their learning attention in a way that can be difficult to access within the schooling system alone.…

Different students have different learning techniques, in that sense I think a teacher should describe a topic multiple times along with different ways to solve the same problem. And, I always keep in mind that everyone's understanding is not same and do not have the same mind set for learning the subjects. As a tutor, I believe I have the enough…

I believe a tutor can help a student find the most suitable way to learn a subject that they might be struggling with in a traditional classroom. With enough encouragement and flexibility in their approach, a tutor can build a student's confidence in their own ability to learn, understand, and grow. I am very impressed with Nikki and the way in which your company operates. Emily had a session with Nikki on Monday in preparation for her algebra topic test on Tuesday and she received 72%!! She would normally get in the 40s for this type of test maybe less for algebra. We are reaping the rewards of Nikki's tutoring already. Very pleased indeed and Nikki is also a great role model for Emily in the way she presents herself and her attitude to life in general. Thank you for your exceptional service.

Inside Kangaroo PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Grace revised equivalent fractions and tackled 24-hour time, then moved on to practice finding fractions of whole numbers and converting between units of weight using her online homework.

Year 7 student Olivia reviewed her latest maths exam before focusing on more advanced algebra problems in preparation for Year 8.

For a Year 11 student, recent sessions included working through sequences and series as well as an introduction to differentiation of inverse trigonometric functions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student lost confidence tackling multi-step algebra and often avoided writing out full solutions; as one tutor observed, "she skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In Year 10, another student struggled to complete comprehension tasks within time limits, spending well over the suggested 10 minutes.

For a senior student preparing for exams, study notes show an over-reliance on open-book practice instead of timed or closed-book conditions—meaning recall under pressure remains weak.

Meanwhile, a primary learner was confused by conversions between units but hesitated to attempt more challenging word problems without support. The result: progress slowed when new content demanded independent thinking.

Recent Achievements

One Kangaroo Point tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to struggle with structuring biology answers now confidently outlining responses on her own, showing she's internalised effective study techniques.

Another high schooler made a breakthrough in algebra: after weeks of hesitation with factorising, he tackled new expressions and even asked for harder questions, demonstrating genuine initiative.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who was previously shy about asking for help started raising her hand whenever stuck instead of quietly guessing—last session, she completed all her fraction problems without prompting or reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sylvania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bald Face Public School.
