As a tutor, my main focus is on getting to know each student personally – their strengths, weaknesses and what they want to achieve. I feel as though a comfortable space where they feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions, and even making mistakes is something important as through mistakes you can learn. Offering guidance,…

Personally, I recognize that there are many responsibilities that a diligent tutor must fulfill, these include: - patience (no matter how many times a student doesn't understand a concept, a tutor should be patient and keep trying) - A supportive environment (students shouldn't feel judged and should have the confidence to openly ask…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is first listen to their needs, being patient with them and then guiding them in their own way to achieve them. Also building student's confidence through quality education is an important part of a tutor. I think my strengths as a tutor would be patience and adaptibity as every…

By increasing a student's confidence in a subject, a tutor effectively improves students' performance not just in exams but also in the classroom. Additionally, gradual changes in understanding of concepts can…

My role as a tutor is not to manufacture a result, it is only to facilitate the student's journey in learning. This is why the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is guide them through their own journey, being present with them in times of difficulty to instruct and clarify questions they need answered most. This extends beyond just…

The most important role of a tutor is to be a reliable pillar of support and a trusted source of strength and knowledge. Students should feel comfortable asking questions, even if they think they might sound “silly,†without fear of judgment. Creating a safe and supportive environment is essential, as students can be hesitant to ask for help…

To create a strong teacher and student bond and a trusting relationship. As I believe the student will have a sense of security, that they are in a safe space. This will allow them to be more likely to open up. Ask more questions that they may feel hesitant to ask. This will create a closer rapport between the student and teacher. I believe that I…

I think it is important for a tutor to make sure that the student understands the question and has a go at working it out by themselves. Providing good study methods and feedback for the student are also beneficial because it can help them improve and learn from their mistakes. For the student to be able to see me as someone he/she can rely upon. I say this because I was not very good at mathematics but when I had a tutor at the start of year 8, she was always friendly and made it very easy to talk to her. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to celebrate a student's success, whether it is big or small. It builds a student's confidence and motivation to keep learning. Make them feel like asking questions is normal, not embarrassing. A lot of students already know what they don't understand , they just need a space where it's safe to say it out loud. Beyond that, I focus on building independent thinking rather than just drilling answers, so students can handle questions they haven't seen before when it counts. I…

We signed up with a tutor who didn't work out and the EzyMath team worked hard to find us a new one as fast a possible. Their communication during the process was great and they kept me informed about how they were going to find the right tutor for my child.

Inside KellyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sofia focused on indices, scientific notation, and significant figures, as well as financial maths applications through targeted textbook problems.

In Year 9, Riaan worked on factorising and expanding quadratics and deepened his understanding of trigonometric functions by applying them to worded problems and geometry questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia practised calculating the distance and midpoint of a line segment and explored bivariate data concepts including correlation and constructing frequency histograms.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's written work lacked clear structure, making it difficult to spot errors in factorising non-monic quadratics—he skipped showing steps in expanding (a-b)², which hid sign mistakes.

For a Year 10 student revising for exams, revision focused mainly on familiar index laws while harder questions were left undone; this meant the leap to complex surds and log rules was unsteady.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 English, a strong plan didn't translate into organised paragraphs when writing independently, with ideas drifting off-topic. The hesitation led to frustration as completed drafts felt disconnected from initial outlines.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kellyville recently saw Keenan achieve a big turnaround: after previously lower marks, he scored 80 and 76 percent in his latest exams, showing much stronger understanding and fewer "silly mistakes."

In Year 10 maths, one student who used to get stuck on harder quadratic equations can now solve them confidently—even using the quadratic formula independently. Meanwhile, a primary student who often rushed through writing tasks began noticing and correcting spelling errors on his own as he wrote, instead of waiting for feedback—he even caught himself before handing work in.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanhope Garden Library/ Dennis Johnson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kellyville Public School.
