One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student to help them learn is to make the subject/topic approachable. From personal experience learning in the past, even the subtlest differences in teaching methods greatly affect a student's interest and capacity to learn. As such I believe a tutor should try their best to make the subject…

First and Foremost, teaching every topic, every concept as clearly as possible and ensuring that the student has actually understood it. A tutor should also ensure that he is giving the student his full and complete attention during a class. I can explain topics very easily and precisely. I am great with giving examples and it is my favourite way…

I believe that it's a tutor's purpose is to push the student at a pace that they're capable of achieving regardless of what that level is. A student can only work to the best of their capacity and achieving this efficiency is the advantaged of personalised education. With younger especially clients in grades 4 and below, I believe it's essential…

-I believe it is a tutor's duty to make sure the student understands the concept thoroughly and precisely as possible,. -A tutor can always jump to the basics of a particular concept if it is not clear for the student. This is mostly not possible in a classroom. -Last but not the least, be a good listener and patient with the students. -Time…

I think that taking the time to really understand the student's needs and being able to break down the problem into its smallest components really helps to understand exactly where the student is going wrong, and how to help them. Once I understand where the student is struggling, I can focus on practicing that concept until they are comfortable…

A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a tutor…

A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aiden tackled solving algebraic expressions through factorisation and practiced simplifying equations by working backwards.

Year 10 student Olivia focused on understanding Pythagoras' theorem and applied it to distance problems on the Cartesian plane, then moved on to trigonometry homework, learning when to use sine, cosine, or tangent in real-world contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ethan worked on adding and subtracting fractions with both like and unlike denominators, as well as applying these skills to worded fraction problems for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, one student frequently avoided writing out algebraic steps when solving equations, leading to repeated sign errors—"he just wrote the answer, skipping how he got there," a tutor noted.

A Year 11 physics student often forgot to bring necessary materials, like textbooks and notes, which slowed progress on graphing tasks and forced reliance on memory instead of review.

In Year 5 English, messy written work and inconsistent backchecking meant spelling mistakes persisted in stories even after feedback.

For senior biology (Year 12), incomplete notes during revision made recalling enzyme names under test conditions much harder.

Recent Achievements

A Kensington tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid asking questions now talks through tricky algebra problems out loud, even when stuck—something he hesitated to do before.

In senior biology, one high schooler managed to complete a practice test on DNA replication and polypeptide synthesis with noticeably fewer errors than in earlier sessions, showing she's retaining more detail each week.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously struggled with mixed and improper fractions has begun remembering to multiply independently at the right step without reminders, finishing her homework with only self-checked corrections.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coogee Boys' Preparatory School.
