In my opinion, the most important thing we can do for a student is not just to teach but to also listen. To ensure that the student can make the most out of each session, its best to first understand the areas that the student is having trouble with and then to work as a team to increase their understanding in these area. My strength would be the…

Listening with patience. Teaching isn't a one way process. The student and the tutor both need to engage with each other. Ability to assess the current level of understanding of the student and then grooming him/her to reach a desired level of excellence. Also, the ability to simplify complex concepts and keep the students motivated and…

I have always had a knack for providing a new and creative approach to a challenging problem. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence and self trust, as this often leads to improved performance. I make lessons engaging by involving students in each step, encouraging questions and critical thinking, and emphasising both independent learning and problem solving. I also give students breaks when…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do is guide and support a student in their knowledge. For me, I found it the most helpful when a tutor was able to provide formulas or structures for solving problems, which allowed me to tackle whatever questions I was tasked me. A good tutor should make sure that his/her student understands the essence and real life importance of the subject he/she is teaching. Local Reviews

Alex has been a great tutor for my son. He is patient, encouraging and explains things clearly. My son feels feels so much more confident in Maths thanks to Alex!
Lauren, Kew East

Inside Kew EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex focused on adding and subtracting mixed numbers as well as converting them to improper fractions, practicing with visual examples.

In Year 8, Emily tackled algebraic equations involving multiple operations to solve for x and worked through inequalities step by step.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack prepared for an upcoming test by working through surface area and volume questions, using real-life cylinder examples to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, hesitation to draft ideas led to frequent pauses; as a tutor observed, "he often waited for reassurance before writing, which slowed his argument planning."

During a Year 11 maths session on compound interest, skipping double-checks of formulas meant answers didn't match the scenario's time frame.

In Year 7 algebra, working was mostly done in his head—steps weren't written out, so mistakes were harder to spot.

For a primary student practicing fractions, messy layout made it tricky to track simplification steps.

Each moment brought visible frustration when confidence dipped after an error.

Recent Achievements

One Kew East tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rush through algebra now stopping to check his work against a list of self-made questions, catching mistakes before moving on.

Another high school student recently tackled compound interest problems solo for the first time, after previously needing step-by-step guidance every session.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, a student who would avoid writing tasks managed to plan and write an entire persuasive piece in one go and even remembered to structure it using TEEL—something he'd struggled with before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kew Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anne's School.
