The most important thing a tutor can do is not only to help students achieve academic success, but to also help the students develop a willingness to delve deeper into that field. My strengths in tutoring are being able to articulate difficult ideas and engaging students in tutoring sessions. I like to make the lessons more like a two way…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is the give them confidence in their own abilities. They may be able to do the work but if they go into an assessment believing that they can't or with some doubt in their mind then they are not going to do as well as they can. Other important thing that a tutor can do for their…

1- make the subject simple and easy rather that complicated and hard. 2- The tutoring style must be interesting and mind catching, avoid teaching in a boring style. 3- The material for the subject must be organized in a way that suits the student understanding, each student has a different understanding, thus, in order to deliver the ideas to…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to have patience when working with a student. As there are many different students with many different learning styles, there may be times when a student is unable to understand topics and concepts, despite long periods of teaching. A good tutor should have patience and…

To be patient and understand their student. Students learn in different ways and after you're able to identify their most effective and efficient way to absorb information, you have to be patient and help guide them through but at the same time, give some leeway for them to develop an understanding as the ultimate goal is to create a way of…

Empathizing with a student and helping them understand that they can do the questions they are struggling on. Ultimately this will give the student the option to chose which techniques best fit their style of thinking.…

For me one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is simply to genuinely believe a student can do well. They need to be able to demonstrate that they care how the student progresses and believes that they are capable of achieving their goals. Most students will believe more in themselves if they know that others do too. I…

Teach at the student's pace! This was something I personally had to work on a lot as I kept wanting to get further, forgetting my purpose was to teach someone else. I believe that a tutor should be able to advocate for the student and that he or she should be the main priority. I believe that a tutor must be able to delve into the mind of the student and understand their preferred way of learning, i.e visually, verbally, etc. It is important to provide the student with all the support they need and ensure…

A tutor should be able to provide necessary learning resources for students, feedback and encouragement. A tutor should also be understanding of each student’s skill level and create a stress-free, yet informative learning session that actually tailors to the specific student’s need. Inside Kew EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex focused on adding and subtracting mixed numbers as well as converting them to improper fractions, practicing with visual examples.

In Year 8, Emily tackled algebraic equations involving multiple operations to solve for x and worked through inequalities step by step.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack prepared for an upcoming test by working through surface area and volume questions, using real-life cylinder examples to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, hesitation to draft ideas led to frequent pauses; as a tutor observed, "he often waited for reassurance before writing, which slowed his argument planning."

During a Year 11 maths session on compound interest, skipping double-checks of formulas meant answers didn't match the scenario's time frame.

In Year 7 algebra, working was mostly done in his head—steps weren't written out, so mistakes were harder to spot.

For a primary student practicing fractions, messy layout made it tricky to track simplification steps.

Each moment brought visible frustration when confidence dipped after an error.

Recent Achievements

One Kew East tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rush through algebra now stopping to check his work against a list of self-made questions, catching mistakes before moving on.

Another high school student recently tackled compound interest problems solo for the first time, after previously needing step-by-step guidance every session.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, a student who would avoid writing tasks managed to plan and write an entire persuasive piece in one go and even remembered to structure it using TEEL—something he'd struggled with before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kew Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anne's School.
