Never get angry at a student for asking the same question repeatedly. They are asking because we have not done a good enough job in explaining to them. So we must be patient and ensure we explain as clear as possible. It also very important for a tutor to encourage and motivate students. Sometimes students say they want to give up but we must…

Maximize their potential for learning and increase their awareness of their own strengths by creating a conducive learning environment (i.e. strength-based approach, encouragement, inquiry-based learning, one-on-one teaching and learning). All these would allow students to gain better understanding of the subjects or theories in a more in-depth…

Tutoring is not just about explaining the subject—it’s about listening, adapting, and creating a supportive environment where the student feels confident to ask questions and learn from mistakes. A tutor plays a very important role in a student's life. A good teacher can put a life long impact on the growth and personality of a student. A tutor can be an inspiration to the student and always be there for him or her not only during the course but even after the course as a mentor for life. As for me, the most crucial thing should be improving their academic performances while arousing their interest in studying. To be specific, these are what I consider responsible tutorial behaviors. 1. Do sufficient pre-class preparation and make notes for every key point that you are going to talk about in detail. 2. Be patient in class. Think…

Just being patient and understanding, giving time and attention with younger kids and respect with older ones. I think that's the best way to help them. I am quite patient so when a student finds it difficult, then I am willing to sit down and spend a lot of time on something until they get it. I am also good at showing multiple ways to solve each…

I firmly believe that making student's confident about the subject is the most important thing. A tutor is someone who guides the student to the solution also letting the student explore the new entities. It is not like providing the question and the answer at the same time. A tutor must be able to win the heart of the student so the student loves…

The most important thing is to make the student understand there is no reason to be disappointed. I also think that as a tutor, I should be able to teach a student how to be independent and think critically. The capacity to communicate in such a way that the learner feels driven, excited, and confident in their ability to master and enjoy whatever challenges come along is one of the most crucial personal attributes of a competent instructor. Inside KeysboroughTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jaxxon worked on one-digit addition and subtraction, as well as reading analogue clocks to the nearest five minutes.

Year 9 student Trin practiced trinomial factorisation using both the cross product and grouping methods, alongside solving bearings problems with step-by-step diagrams.

In Year 10, Emma focused on solving quadratic equations through factorisation and completing the square, also tackling worded questions that connect quadratics to real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, a student repeatedly avoided writing out all working steps, choosing to do calculations in their head; as noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This made it harder to trace mistakes and slowed progress on multi-step questions.

A Year 11 student over-relied on her calculator but forgot key settings like the degrees symbol, leading to incorrect trigonometry answers.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student left place value homework incomplete and struggled to remember addition strategies between sessions—making retention of new skills challenging when revisiting similar problems days later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Keysborough noticed that one high school student, who used to hesitate when unsure, now immediately asks for help as soon as something feels unclear—leading him to complete all his worksheets and homework on time without reminders.

Another high schooler has begun tackling challenging worded maths problems by breaking them down independently, only seeking hints when truly stuck, a big step up from previously waiting passively for guidance.

In Year 4, Charlotte struggled with long multiplication and division at first but, after some targeted support, she managed to solve similar questions on her own during the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dandenong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chandler Park Primary School.
