I think the most important thing a tutor can do is be adaptable and understanding to each student. This makes sure that the student feels comfortable with the tutor and is able to improve and progress with their studies. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to engage in thorough discussions about their thought processes, providing real-time feedback. This approach, which I valued greatly during my own tutoring experience in Year 12, helps students refine their problem-solving skills and deepen their understanding. A key strength of mine as a…

A tutor must first create a positive friendly relationship with the student. After this, the student will have trust in their tutor and will listen to the tutor's instructions. If a student is struggling, the student will tell them not to put their head down but rather try to make those questions easier for the student to solve them and therefore…

I wouldn't assure my future students that they will score high grades with me as their tutor. But I'm sure they will enjoy studying the subject that I teach a bit more than your present liking. Enjoying a subject will automatically show good progress, thus giving you better grades. Hence, bringing a sense of interest for the students with the…

A tutor should maintain a comfortable yet professional relationship with the students, so that they can comfortably express their opinions/questions whenever they have the need to. Also, to be able to share my experiences with the students to help them make the right choices for their future study endeavour. My strength as a tutor would definitely…

I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. A tutor should make the student feel comfortable around them and they should not hesitate to ask any questions - no…

The most crucial skill a tutor can have is adaptability. No two students learn the same way, so I prioritize customizing my method of delivery rather than following a repetitive script. Equally important is building trust and comfort. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable and heard. By incorporating small things like checking in…

In order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. This interest will certainly have a positive impact on a child discouraged by the school and his or her bad grades. Through his or her good mood and motivation, the tutor will be a model for…

A tutor should provide a student a "light-bulb" moment, where they suddenly understand a concept, gain an idea or know how to answer a question. Light-bulb moments allow students to gain confidence in the subject, and thus achieve the goal of a higher mark. I believe it is also important for tutors to provide tips for dealing with stress,…

The most important part of tutoring is to make sure the student grasps a concept entirely and doesn't have any gaps in their knowledge before moving onto new topics. It is essential for students to fully comprehend a difficult concept as this will help them remember it better, gain confidence in the topic and lower their stress. Additionally,…

Teach in an understandable, motivating, and enjoyable way. Crucial factors for efficient learning (things as relibaility, punctuality and so on) are all obvious and mandatory to me. Inside Killarney HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Daniel revised fractions, decimals, and percentages by converting between forms and using visual models.

For Year 8, Emily focused on solving linear equations and interpreting distance–time graphs, practising both algebraic manipulation and graph plotting.

In Year 10, Sam tackled trigonometry—specifically Pythagoras' theorem—and worked through real-world measurement problems involving speed, distance, and time calculations.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was inconsistent across both primary and high school levels. For example, a Year 8 student "did not complete his homework again," which meant less opportunity to reinforce skills between lessons.

In Year 10, one student forgot much of the previously covered material before a test; the tutor noted this suggested "he hasn't been studying and revising the content."

Messy or incorrect layout appeared in Year 9 trigonometry—where failing to keep work tidy led to confusion when applying Pythagoras' theorem.

A senior student's over-reliance on mental calculation in conversion questions ("attempted to do it in his head") resulted in repeated small errors and missed marks.

Recent Achievements

One Killarney Heights tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to get stuck on financial maths now working through compound interest problems with less prompting, showing real independence during practice.

A Year 9 student, after several sessions of struggling to identify x- and y-intercepts, confidently found both and explained how they linked to gradients without relying on hints.

In primary years, one child who'd often mixed up times tables started applying them accurately in multi-step word problems—he finished all the questions in his workbook for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Forestville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Killarney Heights Public School.
