I believe a tutor should develop a friendly relationship with the student. The tutor should adjust to the learning pace of the student while keeping in mind the time constraints when it comes to covering the syllabus. The tutor should adopt the appropriate teaching methodology depending on the student. Patience and adapting to the learning rate of…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not let the student feel like they want to give up. I have seen from my past students that as long as they do not give and keep on trying to understand the concept of maths while receiving supports from their school teachers, friends, parents, and myself, they will eventually…

They created this whole new world for me where I was welcomed to ask as many questions as I could. With Ezy, I strive to create all these new worlds that kids would come to love one day. My persistence and can-do attitude. I never…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to let him or her actually master the knowledge that he or she tried to learn from the tutor. And of course, during the tutoring process, the tutor has to be patient, careful and he has to tailor the plan for each differenct student as each student is different from each other and…

Understanding the student needs is paramount for building a great student-tutor relationship. Sometimes, students can find it difficult to focus or concentrate in class and I think as a tutor, I must be able to understand why the student is feeling such way. I've seen tutors who would get angry at students, just because they were unfocused, and I…

I believe students should be encouraged to ask questions but often feel embarrassed to do so, therefore, I believe a tutor must be supportive and calm while teaching a student, this helps students feel comfortable enough in their learning environment with teachers to ask for help and not feel dumb as there truly are no dumb questions. I am very…

To succeed academically, a student needs to be able to have techniques for solving problems. Therefore it is integral that a tutor doesn’t just provide answers, but provides techniques, and this also allows the student to develop their own tricks and techniques. Additionally, students who doubt themselves and are not confident often don’t even…

Tutors are people who should give their students a more detailed explanation about the materials that students have learnt at school. Tutors are also the ones who guide their students through difficult home work or any assignments that the students struggle with. This does not mean that solutions for such problems are always given to the students,…

Each student is unique and a common mistake for tutors is to keep using the same lessons for all students. The best thing one can do is to cater each lesson to the person. These include where they are in their studies in conjunction with the identity of the student. Mentors should try to incorporate as much of the student's life with the lessons…

In my consideration, the most important thing is as a tutor I can do for a student is developing unique learning plans and strategies for him or her. Also, everywhere is different and the uniform teaching strategies in school are not suit…

It is very important that a tutor makes sure the student can understand or comprehend the topic. However, a tutor have to make sure that the process has to be as engaging as possible and has to acknowledge the fact that all students have different ways of comprehending a particular topic (and we should always consider its viability and shouldn’t…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can and should do for their students is being available for them and their questions without judgement. To be more open to any subject-related questions so students could as as many questions without any hesitation of being judge whether or not the question is senseless. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them truly understand concepts rather than rely on memorization. A tutor should also create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking…

Inside KingsfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Priya focused on applying derivatives to find maxima and minima of functions, working through real-world examples, while Year 12 student Ben tackled physics assignment questions involving circular motion and explored its formulas in depth.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Sarah practised plotting and interpreting frequency distribution tables, sharpening her understanding of how data is represented visually.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled to complete more than 60% of assigned homework, particularly on calculus and probability—"he has been completing 40-60% of his homework, not completing them." This limited exposure to varied question types slowed progress when tackling advanced exam-style problems.

In Year 11 algebra, another student relied on intuition rather than writing systematic steps; this habit meant calculation errors were harder to spot under test conditions.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student often found it challenging to extract all the necessary information from worded questions, which delayed problem-solving and increased uncertainty during assignments.

Recent Achievements

One Kingsford tutor noticed that Ian, a Year 12 student who'd missed school lectures on integration, was able to catch up quickly and now solves integral calculus problems mostly on his own—something he couldn't do just weeks ago.

Scarlett in Year 11, previously hesitant to ask questions about trigonometry and functions, has started clearing up her doubts during sessions instead of letting them linger.

Meanwhile, Alex (Year 6) used to need lots of prompting with ratio word problems but last session worked through several independently and even checked his answers without being asked.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Spyridon College, Junior School Campus.
