I think the most important thing that a tutor does for a students is to create an environment that they enjoy learning in and feel confident in asking questions when they don't understand something. It's also crucial that tutors teach the material in such a way that the students understand the content, and not memorise it, so they are able to…

Not only be able to break down hard concepts into easier-to-understand chunks. But to teach the students tools such that they can become independent in the subject. As well teach the student the ability to learn not just to memorize, so that after the tutoring has finished they are able to tackle future problems as well. - I am able to break down…

In my opinion, the most important role played by any tutor is making the student realize that he or she can change and improve. In addition to explaining the content to a student, a tutor must help him or her acquire self confidence, independence, as well as adopt an optimistic attitude to studying. It is also crucial for a tutor to pay…

The essence of tutoring is being there to support students along their academic journey thus enabling them to develop the confidence to solve problems and grasp challenging concepts that provide them with a competitive edge in a classroom environment. I think the basis of tutoring is to equip students with skills to independently explain concepts…

Tutors have to let students make mistakes. Afterwards, tutor has to tell them why such mistake is derived logically. That is way we learn. I have been solving maths for my whole life. And I believe that every difficult math problems can be divided into elementary parts. Also I solve problems by separating into easy parts; therefore, the way I try…

I believe the three most important things a tutor can do for a student are: Strengthening Fundamentals: Ensuring that a student has a solid foundation is crucial for their long-term academic success. I achieve this by using clear, memorable examples that help students recall concepts whenever they feel stuck or confused. Making the students…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is motivate them to get better at the subject, since tutoring is a two way effort in which both the student and the tutor have to work towards the common goal of learning and improving. I had always struggled with mathematics growing up, and have always had a rocky path of ups and downs…

I think the most important stuff a tutor can do is boost confidence to students. You have to make students believe they can tackle anything. It's also about giving tips on studying and problem-solving that fit them perfectly. Making learning fun and showing why it matters in real life—gets them to learn more. I think my strengths as a tutor are…

I reckon one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe and supportive space where the student feels comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes that’s how real learning happens. Personally, the most important thing a tutor could do is build a connection with their students. I might be difficult but once it is achieved, the lectures would not be seen as a task by the students. Breaking down tough concepts, encouraging curiosity, and providing a supportive space help students grow and instill a thirst for lifelong learning.…

I think a tutor should be able to tailor the teaching session to the weaknesses of specific students. Some students could be weaker in understanding the concepts while others could find it difficult to apply them to the questions while others could find it difficult to understand the exam questions itself. Being able to identify where the…

Inside KingsfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Priya focused on applying derivatives to find maxima and minima of functions, working through real-world examples, while Year 12 student Ben tackled physics assignment questions involving circular motion and explored its formulas in depth.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Sarah practised plotting and interpreting frequency distribution tables, sharpening her understanding of how data is represented visually.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled to complete more than 60% of assigned homework, particularly on calculus and probability—"he has been completing 40-60% of his homework, not completing them." This limited exposure to varied question types slowed progress when tackling advanced exam-style problems.

In Year 11 algebra, another student relied on intuition rather than writing systematic steps; this habit meant calculation errors were harder to spot under test conditions.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student often found it challenging to extract all the necessary information from worded questions, which delayed problem-solving and increased uncertainty during assignments.

Recent Achievements

One Kingsford tutor noticed that Ian, a Year 12 student who'd missed school lectures on integration, was able to catch up quickly and now solves integral calculus problems mostly on his own—something he couldn't do just weeks ago.

Scarlett in Year 11, previously hesitant to ask questions about trigonometry and functions, has started clearing up her doubts during sessions instead of letting them linger.

Meanwhile, Alex (Year 6) used to need lots of prompting with ratio word problems but last session worked through several independently and even checked his answers without being asked.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Spyridon College, Junior School Campus.
