Teach them how to study. I feel that too many students think the only way to study is to read the text book or talk to the teacher. Although these are valid ways I feel that most students don't realise there are other ways to study. I personal prefer to watch videos explaining the subject, draw pictures and diagrams, and then make flash cards.…

Whether they need to adjust their techniques, or go more slowly, etc. The tutor should always be attendant to their student's needs and keep track of their progress. Positive reinforcement is also very important, as uplifting and encouraging your student is more…

Firstly identifying the student's various strengths and areas of improvement is very significant to give a general idea of which topics to focus/skills on the most whilst teaching them. Another key area that a tutor should investigate further is the student's most effective way of learning specific concepts e.g. visual, written, auditory etc. A …

I consider the most important that a tutor can do is able to do is simply a topic or break down said topic into digestible portions such that the student is able to catch onto the content of the work easily and effectively. Inside KingswoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Isabella focused on trigonometric graphs and logarithmic laws to prepare for an upcoming exam.

For Year 12, revision with Adrian centred around integration techniques and summation using past HSC trial papers.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Alex worked through index laws—including subtraction, addition, and multiplication rules—and began exploring trigonometric concepts in preparation for a mock yearly exam.

Recent Challenges

In Year 2 mathematics, one student still counted on fingers and struggled with adding numbers above five—"he can't add anything above 5 without struggling"—showing a need for more foundational fluency practice.

A Year 8 student avoided writing out full algebraic working, relying instead on memorised answers; this made it harder to identify where mistakes occurred and limited her confidence during tests.

In Year 12 Mathematics, a lack of revision on earlier topics such as integration and inequalities meant the student couldn't recall key methods under exam pressure, despite understanding them in lessons. This led to confusion when facing unfamiliar or multi-step problems.

Recent Achievements

One Kingswood tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask for help now regularly checks their graphing steps out loud, showing real initiative in tackling functions.

In Year 7, a student who once rushed through English comprehension tasks has started pausing to reread tricky questions and underline key words before answering, which led to fewer careless mistakes last session.

Meanwhile, a primary student who used to get distracted during maths is now quick to admit when he's confused and eagerly tries new strategies with pipe cleaners—he recently counted up his five times tables without any prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Penrith City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's Primary School.
