There are various ways a tutor is able to help students. A good tutor should always teach the student different styles of learning which allows the students to have a different perspective on their studies. A good tutor should be able to build confidence in the student, not only by helping them through teaching, but also by helping them with any…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster confidence, cultivate a genuine understanding of the material, and inspire a love for learning. Equally important is creating an environment where students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes, as this is essential for real learning. Beyond just academic…

Important things a tutor can do for a student is helping or inspiring them when they are struggling with a concept in a subject they find hard or dislike. Being able to explain a concept in a way a student can visualise and understand it clearly is also important. Besides teaching, a tutor should be a person a student can connect or talk with…

A tutor should be a mentor. They are someone who can guide a student and give real advice. This means they are approachable in and beyond the classroom setting. Being interactive is another must. The student should be solving the problems simply with the tutor's guidance. Tutors must also encourage the student to feel comfortable asking questions…

To create a strong teacher and student bond and a trusting relationship. As I believe the student will have a sense of security, that they are in a safe space. A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a tutor…

A tutor needs to be able to make sure that their pupils are able to reinforce the material they learn in school in a fun and interactive way. By doing so. the pupils' interests elevate in the subject and their confidence in their abilities skyrockets. This can be achieved if students think of me as their friend rather than a teacher, with…

Tutors must build the confidence of their students - they can't just teach them the content and expect them to be able to do it on their own - its more than that. A good tutor needs to build the childs confidence so they know they can answer a question. I can do this, I am the type of tutor that wants to support students to do their best and to…

From my perspective, the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s understanding and confidence at the same time. Each student has a different learning style, so the most important thing for a tutor to do, in my opinion, is to accurately identify a child's learning style and adapt lesson structures and teaching methods to optimise a student's understanding of the content during each lesson. My strengths as a tutor would be my communication and patience. Clear…

Inside Lalor ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava focused on rearranging complex equations and practiced probability questions involving factorials.

In Year 10, Jayden reviewed parabolas and their graphs, including vertex identification, and also tackled basic probability scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily worked through trigonometry problems—using the sine rule to find missing angles—and completed revision on linear relationships by sketching different types of graphs.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, a student often left out steps when rearranging equations—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors—making it harder to check work and fix mistakes.

A Year 11 student avoided writing out working for word problems, leading to uncertainty about which formula applied and slower progress with exam-style questions.

In Year 10, hesitation with graphing parabolas showed up as reluctance to try without a worked example at hand.

For one Year 4 learner, forgetting to arrange data samples in order led to confusion during statistics activities, leaving her unsure whether she had the right answer or not.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Lalor Park recently saw a Year 10 student, who used to quietly guess when stuck, now openly asking questions and explaining his steps as he tackled tricky gradient problems.

Another high schooler surprised herself by using the sine rule correctly in several structured problems after weeks of confusion—she even volunteered to show her method to peers during group work.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once hesitated with worded maths tasks worked out tough perimeter questions independently and checked her answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lalor Park Public School.
