A tutor shoud be able to determine the relative strengths and weaknesses of the student and proceed to generate real results for the student. This helps the student develop confidence and progression. MY strengths are patience, persistence and extensive experience in tutoring. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is serve as a secondary teacher/mentor to a school teacher. As school teachers have to focus on a large class (usually around 30 students), they are unable to address the needs of each student. As each student has their own struggles and needs, an exterior tutor provides…

Give them the best level of assistance to help them excel in their school studies. Also, motivational speeches to let them know that school is just the start of their journey! I think my main strength as a tutor is my ability to listen. I take my time to listen to what the student is saying and really understand what their goals are. This is a…

I don't hope to replace the school teachers completely. However 1 to 1 and smaller group engagements would help put in a more personal touch that would minimize the weakness of the student, bring the best out of them and build character (patience, resilience, analytical thinking) to supplement them to succeed in their education journey Analytical…

Legal Studies Tutor Wiley Park, NSW
The most important thing is to make sure that the student has completely understood the concept. It is useless to move forward if they don't understand the basics. I am able to understand the thought process of a student and their weak points. This allows me to help construct their concepts from the base up and ensure they can solve any…

The most important impact I would love to make for my student's are to let them know how highly important education is however I would want them to work to the best of their ability and not stress themselves out. As a tutor, our main obligation is to implement methods of teaching that allows students to understanding the materials in a way that isnt too complex, but at the sametime, yields the required results when the time comes around. Key to the student's success is built on having someone that they can turn to if they require advice or support, not…

The most important thing a tutor can do is believe in the student. This along with teaching them the value of hard work is significant as it pushes a student to access their potential knowing that they are supported. The value of hard work is also an imperative that should be conveyed through the tutors lessons regardless of the content taught. I…

Show commitment, whether its through showing up on time, or taking some of your spare time at home to mark their work. Also to support and encourage the individual to achiever their very best. I can explain a concept in many different ways, so if the student doesn't understand, I can easily explain in other ways until they get it. I can also adapt…

The most important thing a tutor can do is encourage a positive culture of wanting to learn and evoking a love of education. This allows students to go beyond the classroom and achieve their best. Inside LansdowneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zoe practised division and fractions, with extra focus on understanding decimals and recognising 3D shapes using clues.

For Year 10, Jasmine worked through expanding and factorising algebraic equations as well as revision of quadratic problems from classwork.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Michael tackled cumulative frequency graphs and calculated regression lines for bivariate data using real examples to build statistical analysis skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hesitated to attempt complex indices problems, often skipping harder parts—"she tends to avoid the multi-step indices questions," noted one tutor, which meant fewer opportunities to practice linking concepts under pressure.

In Year 9 algebra, incomplete back-checking of fraction addition steps led to small sign errors persisting across similar questions.

A primary student's missed homework left gaps in times tables recall, so new division skills felt shaky and unfamiliar.

For another Year 8 learner, messy working in volume problems made it tough to trace errors or clarify which formula was being applied at each step.

Recent Achievements

A Lansdowne tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with HSC financial mathematics now confidently solved compound interest and quadratic equation problems independently.

Another high schooler, after struggling with complex algebraic equations, showed new initiative by applying substitution techniques up to fourth-order factorisation without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Zoe—who once needed frequent help with division—was able to write her own division sentences using arrays and tackled most questions on her own, only occasionally checking in for guidance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School.
