While a tutor has many salient roles such as to build confidence, teach study skills, provide constructive feedback, foster critical thinking; the most important ones would be to have patience and empathy. My strengths as a tutor include explaining complex concepts clearly, being patient, and adapting to each student’s unique learning style. I…

the most important things a tutor can do for a student is uplift them knowledge wise as well as in person. To give them knowledge while instilling good habits and ethics. To make them grow into a better version of themselves. I'm good at keeping the class knowledgeable yet interesting at the same time. I have a sharp eye, so it is easier for me to…

The assistance for gaining problem solving ability allows the student to solve about 50% of the task and remaining 50% comes with practice. This aspect to develop Problem solving skills is essential and most important thing a tutor can do. I can explain any concept given to me in the my domain with the most rudimentary approach. Which allows to…

Personal relation. The feeling of not annoying the teacher but the teacher being there for them even if the student asks the same question multiple times. More important than anything else, an effective tutor must be able to meet the student at their level, whether that is their level of understanding or lack thereof of a given topic, or even going the extra mile and help the student address or deal with the external circumstances they face that affect their academic performance. My main strengths…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to them. Listening to them and understanding their point of view when something seems difficult for them, even when it isn't really from my perspective. Then combatting this problem by exploring different ways to present a difficult concept. I do this using analogies and using simple…

I think the most important thing is to adhere to the students needs and their form of learning. If a student is more of a visual learner then I would adapt my teaching style to suit them. I also feel that being available after class hours for queries and concerns is vital but also be able to provide guidance and a good role model not only…

The most vital job of a a tutor is to provide enough confidence to the students so that They can have believe in themselves to solve any numerical problems or to understand any other subjects. I think the most important thing is to encourage a student to be independent and learning how to solve their own problems. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel understood and supported, not judged. Learning can be really challenging, especially when you’re already dealing with pressure, self doubt, or even language barriers. In the end, what matters most is that a tutor helps a student find confidence in their own ability to learn…

As a tutor, it's very important to understand the pace at which a student learns and to accustom themselves by providing a safe and informative learning space for the student. Inside LathlainTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aarav worked on converting percentages to fractions and explored chance concepts, along with building confidence in algebraic expressions and basic factorisation.

In Year 9, Ava practised solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods, and drew linear graphs to interpret parallel lines.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ethan reviewed trigonometry by calculating unknown angles in triangles and revisited Pythagoras' theorem through guided practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, difficulty identifying unknowns meant the student relied heavily on memorizing plans rather than analyzing question prompts.

A Year 8 Maths student submitted incomplete notes for cycles, which led to confusion when matching equations with graphs; as one tutor noted, "her notes were slightly incorrect and incomplete."

During a Year 7 session on rearranging equations, not revising factorisation steps made it hard to follow the process for finding x.

In an online primary class, distractions from surroundings repeatedly pulled focus away from tasks—making pen-on-paper work inconsistent and written explanations sparse. The result: moments of discouragement when stuck or confused.

Recent Achievements

One Lathlain tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 11 Chemistry student who used to struggle with setting out solutions—she now confidently plans her approach for identifying unknowns and works through examples with minimal help.

A high school maths student who previously hesitated during trigonometry lessons was able to complete questions independently, even choosing the correct rule without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once waited for guidance has started voicing her answers aloud while working on spelling tasks, showing real initiative by self-correcting as she goes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lathlain Primary School.
