Making the student believe that Knowledge is Power. Understand and identify where exactly the student is struggling or facing difficulties. Also making sure that the student is in the right headspace at the time of studying is equally important. Firstly, I try and understand the current progress of the student. I believe in making the person…

I think the most important things I can do for a student revolve around mentorship. Being a tutor is not just about imparting information and tips to the student. It is recognising the student as a whole, looking after their mental wellbeing, and ensuring that what they're learning is being tailored to them, rather than a cookie-cut approach. A…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to be very clear and not convoluted when explaining topics, equations, etc. to students, as it can be very easy to get intimated as a student and end up confused. I believe it is also important not to assume any knowledge straight away from students but to intentionally ask what it is that they…

I consider a tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor to learn…

I think that this does vary student to student (haha sorry bit of an off question-answer!) But largely and for those that are shy it's being approachable and this means anything the student doesn't understand, the student should be eager to ask you if you are approachable. And for those who aren't so shy and often at a higher level too, my answer…

A tutor needs to have a good understanding of the content to help cater to the students' needs. By suggesting or providing different resources (e.g. alternative text books, handouts, video clips or study cards), the student can widen their methods of learning and access to resources. A tutor needs to be a relatable individual, who gets along…

Inside LeedervilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Thomas focused on persuasive writing structure and practiced reading speeches aloud for pronunciation, alongside techniques to manage nervous feelings before presentations.

Year 8 student Grace tackled scatter plots and reinforced algebraic foundations using visual strategies, then completed targeted questions on algebra terms and the BIMDAS order of operations.

For Year 10, Olivia worked through bivariate data by constructing two-way tables and scatter plots, calculating missing values, and distinguishing between explanatory and response variables within real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was observed repeatedly erasing answers during maths problem-solving, which caused an inability to build progress in investigation for the correct answer. This habit disrupted the learning flow and left gaps in working out.

In Year 10, one student resisted trying new revision techniques suggested by their tutor, sticking only to familiar methods—this limited exposure to alternative approaches that could fill knowledge gaps before exams.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner displayed low confidence when reading aloud, with nervous fidgeting affecting public speaking tasks; their focus drifted during spelling practice, making it harder to engage fully with feedback and improve fluency.

Recent Achievements

One Leederville tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to freeze up on trigonometry questions—now, after extra practice, she confidently works through exam problems and allocates her own revision time.

In a recent high school maths session, Lewis, who previously struggled with polynomial long division, was able to complete the process accurately and even identified the correct initial factor for a cubic equation without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who would often hesitate before asking for help now raises their hand straight away whenever they're unsure about solving two-way tables.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Vincent Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like School Of Isolated and Distance Education.
