The teacher's professionalism, encouragement, and patience. Teenagers cannot focus on study for a long time so tutor has to be fun and patient to explain the knowledge and catch their attention. I am a patient tutor who has worked as one-on-one class and small class teaching. I always encourage them in lesson so that they won't feel the subject is…

The most important thing would be to be able to empathise with the student and be not just a tutor but also a mentor. Learning is just as much about building confidence and motivation as it is about acquiring knowledge and understanding. This means being optimistic even when things don't work out as envisioned, and expending extra effort to make…

An excellent tutor does more than just give answers; they also help students understand difficult ideas, adjust to their preferred learning method, and promote critical thinking. They help pupils become more self-assured, make studying interesting, and foster an environment where they feel free to ask questions. In order to guarantee that students…

Learning can be spilt into 3 parts. First being simply understanding the content without worrying about exams. Second being revising and coming up questions possible from the content and getting a deeper understanding. Third is looking at the exam questions and how to form the answer to get maximum marks. I am aware of different styles of learning…

The most important thing that you can do for a student is to encourage questions and curiosity, to foster a sense of ease and comfort in having doubts, as well as develop a healthy approach to learning in students. I ensure that my students find it easy to speak to me, and I encourage questions. I know that learning comes from a curated…

I believe that interest is the best teacher, therefore I suppose it is very important for a tutor to bring back students' interests and passions in their studies. If not, the student will only keep seeking help when they are facing the problem and they don't have the intrinsic motivation on studies. However if they are interested and passionate…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to believe in them, encourage them, and remind them that failure is a natural part of the learning process. Definitely to be patient and to never assume knowledge as known or simple. Further to focus on not just content, but also mark schemes for maximum success. The tutor plays an important role in teaching the student that they care about their academics and them as a person. Some kids feel hopeless in some subjects at school, due to bad grades or teachers that have other students to focus on, and believe that there is no way to improve because of that. Through the one-on-one experience with tutors, the…

I think, the main part is understanding. Tutor should help students in understanding of the concepts and their purpose. Secondly, tutor should be understanding, so that he/she serves students according to their needs as different students have different ways of visualising things. Thirdly, tutor should help in planning of the subject so that…

A tutor can help build a child's confidence in their own abilities. They can inspire them to learn and can crucially create an environment of nurture and care. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine passion…

Efficient, personalised and great value. We had an awesome experience in 2022 and EzyMath have come to the party again this year with an equally good tutor!
Simon Rudd, Leichhardt

Inside LeichhardtTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Zoe focused on two-digit multiplication and basic short division, then practised converting improper fractions to mixed numerals and adding fractions with the same denominators.

In Year 7, Ethan worked through solving one- and two-step linear equations and revised Pythagoras' theorem using right-angled triangle problems.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lara strengthened her understanding of laws of indices by tackling index notation questions and reviewed fundamental trigonometry concepts including sine, cosine, and tangent ratios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Mathematics, one student's work on plotting coordinates was "a bit messy," making it harder to identify errors and slowing down corrections during lessons.

A Year 10 learner preparing for trigonometry assessments struggled to remember the SOH CAH TOA rule without written notes—she relied on prompts instead of independent recall.

Meanwhile, in a Year 6 session, confusion converting between square centimetres and square metres persisted; repeated mistakes were not always revisited, so misconceptions lingered into revision tasks.

During primary times tables review, incomplete daily practice meant non-calculator sections remained stressful rather than automatic.

Recent Achievements

A Leichhardt tutor noticed Makayla, a high school student, has started to independently identify which trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine, or tangent) to use—something she previously hesitated with unless prompted.

In another session, Hermione (Year 9) made a clear shift by slowing down and working more neatly after earlier lessons flagged her tendency for rushed errors; this time she completed all sums correctly without careless mistakes.

Meanwhile, Maya in Year 5 showed new persistence by tackling tricky multiplication problems on her own and only asking for hints when truly stuck, finishing an entire worksheet with minimal guidance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inner West Council Library and History Leichhardt Branch—or at your child's school (with permission), like Leichhardt Public School.
