To me, it is very important to make sure that my students are comfortable with the materials and the teaching speed, so they would be more willing to open up and learn, rather than pressuring them to study. I'm very flexible when it comes to teaching styles and communication. It has never occurred to me that one way of learning fit all. If I need…

I think the two most important things are making the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, and actually understanding where they're stuck rather than just re-explaining the same thing louder. A lot of students stay quiet because they're embarrassed to admit they don't get something, so creating a judgment-free environment matters a…

Make sure the student has the right attitude towards studying and enjoying as well. I personally think enjoying what you are doing is the most important. An important aspect of tutoring is not hindering the student's creativity. I believe every student has a different learning style. I have this preconceived notion that both mentoring and tutoring have the same purpose, and that is to help a student learn. As someone who is well-read in the sciences, I always rationalize the factors that inhibit a student’s learning process. With that said, I always aim to clear those learning inhibitors if they are within my capacity. Upon…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be interactive and form a relationship with the student. A tutor needs to understand their student so they can be more effective. Inside Liberty GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Alex revised trigonometric identities and tackled calculus problems involving differentiation and integration, focusing on using the chain rule with trig functions.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through logarithms and exponential differentiation as well as practiced applying log laws to various expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Emily focused on improving her understanding of fractions and decimals, working through visual examples to strengthen number sense.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, a student was noted to leave their working out scattered and disorganised when solving algebraic equations—"the page looked rushed, which made it tough to spot sign errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled with time management during calculus tasks; the focus on getting answers quickly led to incomplete steps and missed marks in integration questions.

In English (Year 10), draft essays were sometimes submitted late, limiting the chance for feedback and reworking arguments.

The need to memorise key formulas rather than rely on notes was also evident during trigonometry practice in Year 12.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Liberty Grove recently saw a Year 10 student move from guessing at problem-solving questions to clearly explaining their reasoning step by step, showing real growth in independence.

In senior high school, one student who used to confuse differentiation rules now recalls and applies all of them accurately when tackling calculus problems.

Another older student, previously overwhelmed by essay writing, has started breaking down thesis statements on their own and constructing them with ease.

Last week, a younger learner finished their times tables activity with barely any errors after struggling for weeks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Concord West Public School.
