One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to form a really strong connection with them so that the student is not afraid to ask questions and gives them someone to trust/rely on. Another important factor when tutoring is to make sure that the student truly understands the concept they are stuck on and can easily apply it to…

As a recent high graduate, I found that the people around me; my teachers' and peers' ability to understand my specific conditions with vital for to get through the HSC. As a tutor it is my responsibility to make sure the student understands and grasps the concept of the lesson. I am student myself so I know the struggles and the laziness that comes with having to study. I think a tutor should not just focus on studying but also make the study environment a little relaxed and enjoyable as it is hard to concentrate…

Mentoring and conveying to the students what is required to solve the problems. Always try to show what are the rules/principles behind any of the…

1. Personalize the learning. every student is different, so what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. 2. Be ready to help. As the job entails, the tutor must be willing to work according to the student's desire. 3. Teaching them how to learn. the ultimate goal of the tutor is teaching the students how to learn and apply. I am…

The most important thing is helping someone develop a passion for the subject so that they want to learn more. Studying for exams can get very stressful and students forget the joy of learning something and their natural curiosity. If a tutor can help a student retain even a small percentage of that, its an amazing achievement. Most of the…

I value tutors as being mentors who students look up to for advice and as a role model, whilst revealing a students' true potential which in turn improves self-confidence and self-esteem. For instance, I think the evolving of students' enjoyment towards subjects, even ever so slightly, is one of the most valuable things an inspiring and supportive…

Listening to the student's misconceptions and errors, and learning from experience. By listening to the students concern, needs, wishes, questions, a tutor can truely cater uniquely to the student. A tutor can assist students in developing thinking abilities and, as a result, growing in the various learning areas in which they need to improve and…

I believe a tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and adapt to their learning style. A tutor can encourage a student that they can do it. There is no word as no. Teacher's need to imbibe confidence in students especially those who are failing to acheive and give them a reason to do well in their studies. Teacher's need to be patient as well. These are some of my strengths: Patience Kindness Sense of…

Inside Liberty GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Alex revised trigonometric identities and tackled calculus problems involving differentiation and integration, focusing on using the chain rule with trig functions.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through logarithms and exponential differentiation as well as practiced applying log laws to various expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Emily focused on improving her understanding of fractions and decimals, working through visual examples to strengthen number sense.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, a student was noted to leave their working out scattered and disorganised when solving algebraic equations—"the page looked rushed, which made it tough to spot sign errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled with time management during calculus tasks; the focus on getting answers quickly led to incomplete steps and missed marks in integration questions.

In English (Year 10), draft essays were sometimes submitted late, limiting the chance for feedback and reworking arguments.

The need to memorise key formulas rather than rely on notes was also evident during trigonometry practice in Year 12.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Liberty Grove recently saw a Year 10 student move from guessing at problem-solving questions to clearly explaining their reasoning step by step, showing real growth in independence.

In senior high school, one student who used to confuse differentiation rules now recalls and applies all of them accurately when tackling calculus problems.

Another older student, previously overwhelmed by essay writing, has started breaking down thesis statements on their own and constructing them with ease.

Last week, a younger learner finished their times tables activity with barely any errors after struggling for weeks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Concord West Public School.
