I believe as a tutor, the most important thing is to pass on crucial skills. Tutoring lessons involve not only achieving the best academic results but also learn crucial skills that can be applied by the student in many aspects. I believe effective and open communication is a strength for me as a tutor. I can understand the needs of the student…

Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Living in such a busy and demanding time can often make us feel the time constraints on everything we do and we expect our…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient and personable with the student. Tutoring is very different from a school environment, in that the benefits that exist are going at a pace that is suitable to the student's needs. Tutors are understanding and can target specific difficulties in a student's learning. We also not only identify…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen to their questions and observe their process of learning to implement the best strategies for improvement. This would help by working closely with students and parents to create a well liked and easy atmosphere for learning that can bring improvement and the best results. My…

I think some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student involve listening and understanding where they're really struggling to be able to help them effectively. This also includes explaining terms or topics not just in the textbook way, but with examples or analogies that would make sense to them. Being patient is also extremely…

As a tutor cannot take exams or do homework for the student, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to have faith in the student's ability and assist the student in every way possible to ensure that the student has faith in their own ability to achieve their goals. Patience, passion and empathy. Patience as it takes time to…

The most important thing a tutor can do would be to personalise the study plan and instruction to ensure that the student's weaknesses and strengths are being addressed and to have the patience to explain concepts repeatedly if the student doesn't understand it at first. Often times, students seek outside tutoring as they feel the help they…

The tutor must create an environment of trust and respect to foster the tutor-tutee relationship. This in turn will make the student feel more accountable to the tutor to do well. I believe a tutor can offer a student so much more that just knowledge; the encouragement of a tutor can unlock a student’s potential and lead them towards consistent success. Tutoring sessions can make a student feel heard and understood which is so important in a student’s journey through self discovery in their schooling years. As a tutor,…

As a tutor you need to provide the individual with problem solving skills to allow them to recognise when a situation is difficult and ways in which they can go about the problem or situation in an effective way to gain insight. This relates to when the child may have a difficult problem for which they can break things down into smaller more…

Teaching the content required within a particular subject is only the start of what a tutor can do for their student, but teaching them how to apply everything they have learned to not only the subject at hand but how they are tested within that subject. Patience and motivation are the main elements that are important as a tutor. As tutoring may be an outside source of school that is not compulsory, it is important to be able to push the students to revise on their work and properly understand their content to a higher level. Tutors are to act patient and as a role model for their students,…

I think it's a question of what a tutor can BE rather than do. I found in my experience that I always responded to teachers who were enthusiastic and portrayed a genuine care for the learning of the student. In a metaphorical sense, the tutor must think like a student in an empathetic way rather than merely be a one way stream of instruction. If a…

The most important thing a tutor can do is believe in the student. This along with teaching them the value of hard work is significant as it pushes a student to access their potential knowing that they are supported. The value of hard work is also an imperative that should be conveyed through the tutors lessons regardless of the content taught. I…

Inside Liberty GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Alex revised trigonometric identities and tackled calculus problems involving differentiation and integration, focusing on using the chain rule with trig functions.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through logarithms and exponential differentiation as well as practiced applying log laws to various expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Emily focused on improving her understanding of fractions and decimals, working through visual examples to strengthen number sense.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, a student was noted to leave their working out scattered and disorganised when solving algebraic equations—"the page looked rushed, which made it tough to spot sign errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled with time management during calculus tasks; the focus on getting answers quickly led to incomplete steps and missed marks in integration questions.

In English (Year 10), draft essays were sometimes submitted late, limiting the chance for feedback and reworking arguments.

The need to memorise key formulas rather than rely on notes was also evident during trigonometry practice in Year 12.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Liberty Grove recently saw a Year 10 student move from guessing at problem-solving questions to clearly explaining their reasoning step by step, showing real growth in independence.

In senior high school, one student who used to confuse differentiation rules now recalls and applies all of them accurately when tackling calculus problems.

Another older student, previously overwhelmed by essay writing, has started breaking down thesis statements on their own and constructing them with ease.

Last week, a younger learner finished their times tables activity with barely any errors after struggling for weeks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Concord West Public School.
