One of the most important things I consider a tutor can do is explain subject(s) and provide support in a way that is tailored to the individual student. In my experience, many students seek tutors for subjects they do not fully understand yet. As every student learns differently, an effective tutor would be able to alter their teaching style…

As tutors, the most important thing they can offer a student is the opportunity to improve their learning. Private tutoring differs from classes and group tutoring because tutors can efficiently find out the areas that the student struggles with the most and deal with the problem effectively. One of the most important things about being a tutor is…

Besides the standard (delivering content, explaining concepts etc) I believe the absolute most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide 2 things. Self belief, and learning indepedence. I see the standard delivery of education as a given for any tutoring oppurtunity. However, going beyond and empowering a student with confidence and…

Not to force feed content, but take an approach from a different angle of two if the first method does not work. Some understand content from different view points while some get it first try. Other than that, encouragement and support is the other driving factor which will help them want to do better and achieve more. I am patient, organised and…

As a tutor, firstly, I would like my students to understand that making mistakes is normal and part of the learning process. Making mistakes helps them understand the subject material in greater depth. Secondly, I would like to make learning a fun and easy experience for students and give them the tools to work through seemingly challenging tasks…

Tutoring personally involves a giving and receiving conversation with evaluation on both ends. This involves engagement and communication with the tutee so that the teaching environment is comfortable and the individual feels compelled to input a concept. Adapt to their needs. As a tutor, your job is to assist in their learning experience, and get growth from the student. There is no one way to teach that is effective for everyone. I believe that my biggest strength is understanding the learning styles of my students. Some are more visual learners, some are more verbal, and some just require…

Inside Liberty GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Alex revised trigonometric identities and tackled calculus problems involving differentiation and integration, focusing on using the chain rule with trig functions.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through logarithms and exponential differentiation as well as practiced applying log laws to various expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Emily focused on improving her understanding of fractions and decimals, working through visual examples to strengthen number sense.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, a student was noted to leave their working out scattered and disorganised when solving algebraic equations—"the page looked rushed, which made it tough to spot sign errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled with time management during calculus tasks; the focus on getting answers quickly led to incomplete steps and missed marks in integration questions.

In English (Year 10), draft essays were sometimes submitted late, limiting the chance for feedback and reworking arguments.

The need to memorise key formulas rather than rely on notes was also evident during trigonometry practice in Year 12.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Liberty Grove recently saw a Year 10 student move from guessing at problem-solving questions to clearly explaining their reasoning step by step, showing real growth in independence.

In senior high school, one student who used to confuse differentiation rules now recalls and applies all of them accurately when tackling calculus problems.

Another older student, previously overwhelmed by essay writing, has started breaking down thesis statements on their own and constructing them with ease.

Last week, a younger learner finished their times tables activity with barely any errors after struggling for weeks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Concord West Public School.
