However also being able to listen to their whats and needs and providing the right guidance for them. I think the capabilities and skill set i have is pretty good to be a tutor. As i am very communicative, approachable, empathetic,…

I believe the most crucial aspect of tutoring is creating an environment where students feel supported and equipped with effective learning methods. A tutor's role extends beyond passing knowledge; it involves understanding each student's unique learning style. By tailoring teaching strategies to individual needs, a tutor can instill a passion for…

The most important qualities are patience and compassion. When a tutor is knowledgeable about the subject and shows understanding towards students who are struggling, those students will feel safe and be more open to learning. I provide examples to clarify concepts, and I'm willing to explain the same material multiple times until my students…

The most important thing in teaching any subject is showing the big picture along with the nitty-gritty. I hope that my student can see the beauty in the sometimes boring schoolwork, and see the deep underlying connection and unity of it all. However, sometimes desperate times happen, and then we must drop the profound thoughts and do what needs…

For me, the most important thing is helping students actually enjoy math and feel comfortable with the process of not knowing right away. A lot of math is about sitting with that discomfort, resisting the urge to panic, and trusting that if you think logically, you’ll find a way through—even if it’s not the “textbook†method. I want…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for students is making sure that the student completely understands the concept and does not try to rote learn it. I believe that a tutor is a person who can change the point of view of a student through which they can grasp the concept well and improves their understanding ability. I own…

Give the student confidence. Confidence either to persist with the hard work till they hit a breakthrough or the confidence to thing around the problems. There are a lot of students who don't lack in talent and just a couple little things are holding them back. Solving those can really help them grow. I am able to seperate a topic into byte sized…

In my opinion, it's most important to help students to understand basic concepts and theories when tutoring them. With these knowledge, students will have confidence to overcome problems and hardness in Maths by themselves. For the past two years, I have tutored several students in Physics and Maths, especially Math Methods year 11 and 12.…

The roll of a tutor is two-fold. Firstly, to help students understand the material they are working with. There are many ways to go about this, but one of the most important roles of a tutor is to be able to bring intuition to the abstract. This in addition to introducing effective methods for solving problems. The second key roll is helping…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is engage them within a subject, keep them interested to learn more, and motivate students to do their absolute best. The most important things a tutor can do for a student extend beyond academic instruction. While helping students grasp challenging concepts is crucial, equally vital is fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment. A tutor should adapt teaching methods to suit the student's unique learning style, provide constructive feedback, and…

As a tutor, I believe it is critical for providing a space for students to not be afraid to be wrong and foster engagement. A tutor must allow students to think for themselves and provide prompts which enable more critical and deeper thinking. A tutor must be able to understand the different needs for each student and be able to provide the…

Different parameters that determine WHAT is important to a student vary largely depending on the teacher, student’s needs and the learning content. The most vital thing a tutor can do is to make study fun , yes, a student who just remained worried about studies and exams should no longer be worried if he or she has a tutor . In my opinion, a tutor must be able to empathize with the student and create a safe space for them. Its important to be constructive and patient especially with the ones that take time to grasp topics. One must keep instructions clear and always strive to empower the child by focusing on their strengths. Engage them instead of lecturing…

Inside Linden ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Divyanshu focused on Stage 2 Chemistry topics such as stoichiometry and spectroscopy, alongside advanced differentiation skills in Maths including **chain, product, and quotient rules** with functions like ln(x) and e^x.

In Year 10, Lucy revised **index laws** and practiced converting between fractional indices and surds, also working through problems involving mixed fractions.

For Year 7, introductory lessons with Maja covered the basics of algebra—**isolating variables**, balancing equations, and progressing to solving simultaneous equations using elimination and substitution methods.

Recent Challenges

In senior Chemistry, one student struggled to draw structural formulas of esters, and hesitated when asked to name or number side chains—this slowed progress during exam-style questions.

In Year 12 Maths, a pattern emerged: working quickly under pressure led to repeated errors in differentiation and chain rule applications, especially with equations involving e^x or ln; missing small steps meant marks were lost on otherwise well-understood problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student often left working out incomplete in algebra tasks, which made it difficult for her to spot calculation mistakes or revisit the logic behind her answers later.

Recent Achievements

A Linden Park tutor noticed that Divyanshu, a Year 12 student, has become much more independent in maths—he now corrects his own algebraic mistakes and solves first principle problems without guidance, after previously needing frequent help.

Zac, in Year 9 English, shifted from barely writing at all to producing a full-length essay within just one week, and recently earned an A on his assignment by applying new structural techniques.

Meanwhile, Lucy (Year 5) showed real initiative during her sessions; she began factorising equations with minimal prompting, having struggled with similar tasks earlier in the term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Linden Park Primary School.
