Simplify concepts in an understandable personalized way for them to understand at their own rythm. A tutor can relieve the preassure of due dates or schedules from the classroom and advance along with the student. Focusing on understanding how the student learns, ask them about their interests and being able to relate the subject with something…

A tutor can provide the pathway of learning. The tutor should understand the position of his/her students. Significantly, the tutor helps to form a strong foundation which helps students to achieve the goals. Basically, teaching is an art. I prefer doing teaching in a simple way. Students can learn better if subjects material is divided into…

1. Be prepared. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to be prepared for the session. That includes preparing the lesson beforehand and getting everything ready. 2. Reviewing the fundamentals with the students. This means not jumping to advanced topics with the students when they might need a little refresher on the subject. In math, it is…

Be patient with the student when it comes to concepts they struggle with as well as adapting to their skills and ways of learning in order to optimize their efficiency and knowledge. As a tutor, it is important that you pass on the right knowledge to the student. Make them think about things by themselves instead of giving them straight away. A tutor, shouldn't discourage students if they ask a dumb question, they should resolve all their queries with a good understanding. A tutor's job is to support a student and be curious…

I also…

The most important role of a tutor is to transform a student’s mindset. Beyond teaching content, I aim to impart a genuine passion for the subject and build the self-belief that they are capable of mastering it. When a student stops saying 'I can't do this' and starts asking 'How do I solve this?', that is real success. As an Engineering Masters…

To actively listen and build their confidence. This is absolutely one of the most important things a tutor can do, as if the student doesn't feel heard, or is not confident (despite having the skill/talent), they will get no where, and won't perform at their best. The key benefit of a tutor is that they can provide individualised support for a student. While teachers at students' schools often may not be able to allocate…

Having empathy, because not all content comes too easy for students as it does for us, obviously. Having patience, because it can be frustrating if a tutor just expects a student to "get it" immediately. Being kind. Inside Linley PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Georgia reviewed her recent NAPLAN paper to identify and address challenging question types, while Year 8 student Ethan worked through linear equations and interpreting graphs by constructing number sets from worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby focused on algebraic manipulation—multiplying and dividing terms—and practiced simplifying complex expressions to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student forgot to bring required test materials and relied heavily on a calculator, missing out on vital non-calculator skills—"she needs to work on being able to do calculations without a calculator."

In Year 10 algebra, a reluctance to put logic on paper meant errors went unnoticed until feedback was given.

For a Year 8 student, disorganized working when breaking down composite numbers made factorization tasks harder than necessary.

Meanwhile, in primary years, skipping written steps during division led one student to make mistakes that "could have been avoided if workings were shown clearly."

Recent Achievements

One Linley Point tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to get lost in algebra now confidently tackles simultaneous equations, even switching between substitution and elimination methods without prompting.

In Year 11, another student who'd previously rushed through answers is now carefully laying out solutions step by step, catching her own errors—especially with trigonometry questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner has shifted from guessing at worded division problems to reading them independently and explaining her reasoning before working out the answer. Last session, she solved three tricky word problems on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladesville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hunters Hill High School.
