The most important thing is to make sure the student achieves or exceeds the intended academic goals. If a student achieves his/her academic goals because of me, I can proudly say that I am a successful tutor. The most important strength of mine is the ability to communicate in a way that makes the student feel motivated, enthusiastic, and…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to build rapport so that they trust in your abilities and in your desire to help them. I also believe that it is important that students feel that the time that they have spent with you has been worth the cost and the effort. One of my tutoring strengths is my ability to explain…

Firstly, I believe the philosophy of "Teaching to fish rather than giving a fish. " It suggests that the tutor has a responsibility to inspire her students to take further exploration in the subject and cultivate good learning habits. Secondly, I think encouragement is essential in tutoring. Being as a tutor, I would let my student know that they…

The most important thing I think a tutor can do for a student is to instil in them a good approach to learning through teaching them practical techniques to work smarter and get more out of the effort that they put into the subject. Demystifying task sheets for a student and teaching them how to manage their time and develop a good working…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to work the questions out and guide them rather than just telling them the answers. By actually teaching instead of telling, they are more likely to enjoy the subject and do well on exams and future assignments. The end goal of tutoring is for the student to be capable of…

A tutor must give a student confidence and help them to not be overwhelmed by new topics. Once a student believes they can learn something, it is much easier to actually learn it. Tutors must also be personal and understand what method of teaching is most effective for each individual. As a recently graduated student, I am able to understand how…

In the teaching phase, student-focused teaching would be my method of teaching, which is to discover what the students need instead of dumping knowledge, whilst showing respect and understanding. When a student raises concerns about a question, which I assume in maths and sciences usually composites of concepts from multiple areas of study, I…

I believe it is integral to grasp the individual students learning style and tailor my lessons accordingly. As a part of this, it's also important to learn what doesn't work for them, and avoid these techniques. For example, an English teacher might teach them poetic terms by getting the student to write out definitions. If a students doesn't…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. I think the main role of a tutor is encouraging confidence in their students. I have found that most of the time my students know the answer, they're just too afraid to say it. Or they may be on the right track and need a little guidance to fully understand a concept, making problem solving skills another thing that I try to pass on to my…

Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. A tutor is one of the best person who can analyse this and make learning a creative activity instead…

First of all, it is the responsibilty of a tutor to fulfil his course requirements professionally and in such a way so as to not only develop an understanding of the concepts taught, but also inculcate critical thinking to analyse the taught concepts. Secondly, students are the future of any nation. Teaching good behavior and respect for others in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is relate to their learning. A great tutor will adapt their learning styles and pedagogy to frame the student and enable them to learn in the best way possible. For example, you may have several students across the week, yet all of them are different. A great tutor makes an effort in…

Inside LutwycheTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Jess focused on solving linear simultaneous equations and reviewed surface areas and nets, using worked examples to reinforce understanding.

In Year 10, Anna practiced factorising both monic and non-monic quadratics before moving on to applications of trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan) in problem-solving contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Sam tackled perimeters, areas, and volumes of various shapes by breaking down composite figures into simpler components.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Physics student's struggle with rearranging equations and applying qmc Δt formulas was evident, especially when "swapping denominators and quotients" in heat calculations led to stalled progress.

In Year 10 Maths, homework was repeatedly left incomplete; one session paused because the book couldn't be found, meaning feedback couldn't build across weeks.

Messy working also became an obstacle for a Year 9 student—steps were hard to follow, so small sign errors crept into algebra without being noticed.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 learner hesitated to start questions independently, needing each step prompted before attempting unfamiliar problems herself.

Recent Achievements

One Lutwyche tutor noticed a Year 12 student who previously struggled with quadratic expansion now able to factorise independently and even tackle non-monic quadratics, something that had caused frustration before.

Another high school student showed initiative by identifying her weak points after a practice test—she corrected her errors without prompting and narrowed in on rearranging equations, which she'd found confusing in earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often hesitated to start homework has begun finishing tasks during tutoring, using vertical multiplication confidently for two- and three-digit numbers—last session, she completed all set problems without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Cross School.
