But most importantly, the tutor should always make sure the student has understood the concept, always! Being able to adjust your teaching services to cater all types of students, with different…

I believe the key purpose of a tutor is not only to improve a students grades but also encourage intellectual curiosity. Due to the individuality of each student a personalised experience must be created by tutors, through adapting teaching methods and lesson plans, to stimulate the unique minds of students. Further tutors must recognize the…

The most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a students is to instill self-confidence in the student because a student that is confident will be more resilient to adversity and be more likely to solve problems by themselves. My strengths would be that I have gone through the Australian school system and have encountered similar challenges…

I think a tutor must help a student understand their work. A deep level understanding is good as it can give new perspectives to their work and to their endeavors. A surface level understanding is okay for replicating pre-set answers for a question, but a deeper understanding allows the person to view the question in a different way and to give…

Understanding the level the student is at, so that they are able to improve their skills at a suitable pace is essential. Next, providing worksheets, exams and textbooks so that they can continue improving by themselves,…

Any tutor can teach students math or science but the best will be who can make them understand by recognising their strengths and weaknesses then teach them accordingly, because every child have different outlook on any topic. The most important thing is to be patient and understanding of the student. I believe that in order to teach efficiently, those two core values must be practiced first for the student to truly engage and advance in the learning material. Contrastingly, in a practical sense, the most important thing we can do is to ensure the student understands…

From my experience I noticed that there are students who still hold their voices at school when they have a doubt due to several factors. Once they are comfortable with a tutor, they are more open to questions in their mind and try solving them one on one with the tutor. On this note, I find being a tutor amusing as I always find solving their…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them become more independent and confident with the subject material. Inside Lysterfield SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jack worked through algebraic manipulation and the multiplication rules for indices, focusing on practice problems to build fluency.

Year 10 student Emily explored quadratic expressions and equations, including solving by factorisation and using examples from her textbook.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah concentrated on one-variable statistics—summarising data sets and constructing box plots and histograms using her calculator to interpret real data.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Mathematics, one student skipped completing all chapter questions and struggled to use the CAS calculator efficiently during timed tasks—"must practice using the calculator to improve timing."

In another VCE context, a student avoided reviewing SAC errors or identifying weak areas, leading to repeated uncertainty in assessments.

A Year 8 learner relied on guessing answers without showing reasoning in worded problems, which left gaps unaddressed.

For a Year 4 maths session, missing focus led to forgotten subtraction steps with carry overs; as one tutor observed, "she tended to forget subtraction with carry overs," causing calculation errors that slowed progress.

Recent Achievements

One Lysterfield South tutor noticed a big change with a Year 10 student who had struggled to connect theory with practice in algebra; now, he's independently rearranging equations and can explain why each step matters, instead of just following along.

In Year 7 maths, another student used to guess at negative number problems but recently started pausing to check her logic before answering—she even asked for more challenging questions last session.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who found fractions confusing is now confidently identifying equivalent fractions on number lines and quickly shaded the correct parts without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Endeavour Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Maranatha Christian School.
