To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

As a tutor apart from the subject we need to teach ethics, moral values. And how to overcome the problems they are facing in a day to day life. My major strength is my experience. Because I've been teaching so long I've taught almost every course we offer. As a result, I've told both my chairman and the Principal to do my classes last; I'll be…

To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

A tutor should be patient when a student is experiencing difficulties understanding the topic. When a student does not appear to be actively engaged, the tutor should take the initiative to support them. Finally, a tutor should be excellent at explaining difficult concepts to students. I think making students feel like they're being seen and heard is a really powerful thing, and to make clear that a tutor isn't just a fixed resource like a book or a video but someone you can interact with and learn from just from someone being there to guide you. I think learning from someone showing you is so much more powerful than just…

In order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. I think that communication and being on the same page (figuratively) as your student as very important. Inside Macquarie ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zara focused on place value and rounding to tens and hundreds, then practiced addition strategies for multi-digit numbers.

In Year 8, Daniel worked through surface area of cylinders, applying the formula in worded scenarios and reviewing volume calculations for a range of 3D shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily tackled trigonometric ratios with bearings and solved angles of elevation and depression questions using diagrams to visualise real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in algebra needed reminders to show working, especially when forming equations—needs to start independently form equation of question for which a revision test is scheduled for next class.

In Year 11, time management emerged as an obstacle during exam strategies; planning responses more efficiently was discussed after rushed answers cost marks.

For a Year 6 geometry assessment, "test score 18.5/40" reflected gaps in both content and exam confidence.

One Year 7 learner hesitated to attempt questions due to fear of mistakes, leading to less written practice and slower improvement each session.

Recent Achievements

A Macquarie Park tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for clarification, now actively seeks help when stuck on trigonometry problems—this shift has led her to solve more complex questions independently.

In another session, a Year 9 student who struggled with quadratic equations last term managed to work through several examples without errors and even identified areas he wanted extra practice in.

For a younger learner in Year 3, reading aloud became smoother; she now tackles unfamiliar words by sounding them out instead of skipping over them, finishing her first storybook without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as North Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beaumont Road Public School.
