This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

The other thing that tutor can do for a student to maximise their educational growth is to try and make them understand the points where they are wrong and not just to do their work for…

Inside ManninghamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Maim focused on mastering long division with three-digit numbers (including remainders up to 1000) and practised persuasive writing by developing arguments for "no homework."

Year 10 student Ethan worked through trigonometry concepts such as using sine, cosine, and tangent in right-angled triangles, as well as consolidating knowledge of coordinate geometry by plotting points and calculating gradients.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ava tackled statistics topics including interpreting data displays and finding mean, median, and mode from sample sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly avoided homework, and even claimed work was done when it hadn't been started; "she did not do any work after we finished the previous lesson and did not even appear to have added anything to the document." This meant concepts from algebra and assignments could not be reinforced between sessions, slowing progress.

In Year 3 maths, a student skipped multiplication practice set for homework, which made it harder to recall tables during lessons—relying instead on finger counting.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student hesitated to write independently, often giving up rather than attempting written responses when unsure.

Recent Achievements

One Manningham tutor noted a Year 8 student who used to get stuck on long division is now making very few mistakes and often corrects errors independently before moving on.

In senior maths, a Year 11 student recently finished a timed test under exam conditions, showing her full working for every question—this was the first time she managed it without rushing or skipping steps.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who once mixed up '13' and '15' can now write all numbers accurately from 1 to 15 neatly and accurately with no help, even tackling pattern recognition activities using her own logic.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacres Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hampstead Primary School.
